Also people are forgetting right now that Mickey D’s just isn’t profitable anymore. Which is why they are moving toward automation.

Too much competition from high end local burger places and places with better quality food and service for comparable prices.


You have better quality places like shake shack, Whataburger, In and out, that are comparable in price and have better business models, with smaller menus where they don’t need to come up with a new “so and so burger new this month” to draw slobs into their restaurant.

THERES A REASON IN N OUT HAS A LINE OUT OF THE PARKING LOT EVERY HOUR AFTER MIDDAY all the way to midnight and their employees get paid decently and it’s usually like 15 mutherfukkers in there working at once.

Have to disagree with you breh. McDonalds is very profitable. That is the reason their stock has increased every year for the past 3 decades.

Plus we can't look at this from a big city got a bunch of selections angle. Mcdonalds racks up and opens thousands of restaurants because they target everywhere in the US.

When you travel to rural areas with only one light....McDonalds is there. In small towns with only 1000 folks....mcdonalds is there.

Even in my wifes home town in Mississippi. Before they got any fast food restaurant even before they got a walmart. Mcdonalds was the first chain to arrive there. Just count how many mcdonalds you come across throughout the country in small towns as you make a drive on the highway.

Those mcdonalds stay packed in small towns.

The addition of these semi automated systems (they are not full automated) is all about capitalism and cutting overhead costs. If anyone is to be blamed its the VPs, Execs, stock holders, Lean Black Belts and Industrial Engineers at mcdonalds....basically the bean counters and cost reduction folks.

Also the customers are the ones that get played in this cause they are paying twice. Once for the food and second the company is using their physical labor and not paying them to select or bag/scan (walmart, Albertsons and etc) the product.

Last few times I flew the entire check in process was done at a kiosk and I just went to the check in desk to have my bag weighed and the thing put on the handle.
Kiosk will become more and more common. Theoretically the increased efficiency should mean more jobs in other high skill areas but there is no evidence that increased profitability means more jobs
The Trump tax cut has mostly resulted in companies passing those savings on to share holders in the form of corporate stock buybacks. We are headed to a new era of two class of people: high skill workers (IT, Programmers, Machine Learning experts, etc) and low skill workers who will probably be on the fringe of being homeless and likely living in excluded societies outside of the main city centers because they can't afford the high rents on whatever salary they manage to get

That will NEVER happen. Anything that even leans towards socialism will get shut down quick. America is the definition of capitalism. I've even had some poor people tell me that increasing taxes on the rich is detrimental to the country since doing so would result in rich people hoarding money instead of investing it back into the economy. They might be right but I would not expect a dirt poor person to say this . Just take a look at the failed cities in America such as Detroit. All they had to do was invest in that city a little to revilatize it but it seems like the government said "FK it" let capitalism decide their fate. It's sad really.
