In the sky
To me Roy talent revolved so much around his speed that when he got older and lost his speed, he could not rely on great boxing technique to keep him winning. Roys defense was his speed.
The diff is Floyd is about speed yes, but he more so relies on boxing and boxing technique for winning, and his defense is not built around how fast he is, but superior acumen.Even in his older years Floyd will be more competitive than Roy because of this.

Jones SR taught RJJ all the aspects of boxing, he would of never gotten to Olympics if he didn't have the technique. Once RJJ became pro he created his own style and that worked for many years. You saw attributes of adaptability, depending who he was fighting sometime his style would adapt. After the weight drop, Roy should adapted his style style since he reflexes were shot, but he chose not too. Not because he didn't know how. to. As you can see from his boxing commentary he's usually spot on most of times. So he knows all aspects of boxing.

the only comparisons i see between the 2 are that both are/were exciting to watch, and great counter punchers, but that's about it....their styles were nothing alike...roy was an aggressive, offensive fighter....where as pbf is a defensive, pick his shots fighter....not only that, they approached boxing different...

roy was the most athletic boxer i've seen...the shyt he did in the ring off natural physical ability was amazing to see....the gap between him and pbf athletically is huge.....but he wasnt that technical....by that i mean he relied solely on his athletic ability for the most part, so when he fukked his body up going down in weight that fast, that's why he looked over the hill and was a completely different fighter...

pbf on the other hand is one of the most technical boxers i've ever seen....the gap between him and roy technically is just as huge as the athleticism one, except this favors pbf.....so when his athleticism started slipping, he had his technical ability to fall back on, something roy didnt have...that's why pbf can still whoop ass as he gets older.....

as for whose better: that depends on what you like more as a person....all i know is i've been blessed to watch & enjoy both of their careers....and i think they are 2 all time greats....

Bruh what are you talking about? Virgil Hill is a nobody? Mike Maccullum is a nobody? Tarver? Griffin? Johnson? JC Gonzalez? Ruiz?:confused:

Lights Out will only be remembered for his longevity??? :hubie::hubie::hubie:
Go to your closest sports bar

Mention "Virgil Hill" see how many people know him

Mention Miguel Cotto. Mayweather has fought a better level of competition and it's not even close

hbo commentating team used to call roy a ducker before they even cared about floyd

it started with him and den bob arum and hbo took it to the next level with floyd

roy didnt start fighting everyone until he got washed

he went back down to fight tarver because he had no other fight avaliable at heavyweight after holyfeld and tyson fights fell through, not cause he superman:pachaha:

:gucci: Virgil Hill is a hall of famer
Besides Hearns and Jones who has he faced?

You're getting into aficionado territory, that's cool I respect it - but you have to be in-tune with the reality of what the public perceives

Karl Füller is a legendary German Shepherd breeder. The German Shepherds that carry the Kirschental last name were commonly ranked among the top in the world

. . and to some that's the biggest thing in the world

If I were to expect you to know that this man is an absolute legend in his respective community it would be delusional of me

Virgil Hill is not known - his last name isn't even synonymous with him

If I say Cotto you know who I'm talking about

Roy was leading with left hooks even in the amateurs. He was so fast he just never needed to rely on proper technique.

I agree with you :manny:

but Skip Bayless doesn't :skip:

I have never, at no point, said Virgill HIll is a nobody

but Floyd Mayweather Jr's resume over Roy Jones Jr's resume isn't based on that

Virgill Hill isn't the basis

Floyd Mayweather > and so are some of his opponents

As some of you may of noticed you can just about use someone's opinion on Floyd Mayweather as a litmus test of sorts because Floyd haters typically the loudest voices to go along with some of the worst boxing IQ you'll ever come across. So in an effort to raise the bar of the discussion I share these videos with you so you have some talking points that can help you amount to more than the idiocies of Skip Bayless

So here you go.

If you'd like to try a debate with your new talking point you may use this opportunity now

Stupid comparison. Floyd never went up that far in weight and came back down.

And to be real about it, if Floyd keeps fighting until he's 45 (against actual boxers and not clown shows like we'll see next weekend), he's gonna end up getting that same treatment everybody else got. Father Time is undefeated for a reason.
BHOP lasted to 50 until he got blasted out, and floyd is genetically and Intangibly superior to bhop, look at Floyd Sr, nikka is shredded....

He might get out worked but I dont forsee Floyd getting blasted out.....

I just mean him losing to a younger, stronger fighter, even if that fighter isn't at his skill level or nowhere near as good as he was in his prime. I can't imagine Floyd putting himself in a situation to get totally humiliated.
