Math Hoffa cohost says if lyricism was the thing like back in the days Kendrick Lamar wouldn’t be up there like that .

There’s multiple types of lyricism but typically when people refer to lyricism and people being lyrical or not, they’re either speaking on having crazy wordplay or crazy with compound syllables and Kendrick really isn’t good at those things. He’s basically a 1 syllable bandit. And he doesn’t have like punchlines or play on words that’ll have you in awe.

But he has good vocabulary and very good imagery. That’s where he stands out as far as being a lyricist.
He used to be nicer when he was younger imo a lot of his bars today are very lazy and simple.

I agree the lack of compound syllables and the voices and flows he uses is why some people don’t fukk with him like that.

He’s not nicer than Pac lyrically not with compound rhymes or imagery.

I lean more towards picture painters like an Andre 3K, Nas, and Kendrick where they ain't dropping verses making you scrunch your face up but they have a level of depth and introspection in their lyrics that many just don't comprehend lyrics deep enough to fully grasp.
Yes they are and Nas especially in his prime had those multi syllabic compound rhymes that give the “wow factor” that makes your face scrunch up.

shyt like this…

They never realized how real Nas is, so decisive
It's just the likeness of Israelites mist that made me write this
A slight twist of lime rhyme, be chasing down your prime-time
Food for thought, or rather mind wine
The Don Juan features the freak shyt
My thesis on how we creep quick
fukking your wife, that ain't no secret
It's mandatory — see, that p*ssy, they hand it to me
I got no game, it's just some bytches understand my story
There ain't no drama that my nikkas never handled for me
My gator brand is Mauri, walking through rough land before me
Where the snakes put a smile on they face
Hoping and praying I'm stuck
Scoping, they lay in the cut, weighing my luck
Player haters play this in cell blocks and rocked stages
Winking at some female cops with cocked gauges
Really, it's papers I'm addicted to
Wasn't for rap, then I'd be sticking you
The MAC inside the Triple Goose
Face down on the floor's the routine
Don't want hear nobody blow steam
Just C.R.E.A.M. or it's a smoke screen
Imagine that, that's why I hardly kick the bragging raps
I zone, to each his own in this ghetto inhabitant

Kendrick doesn’t zone out like this he’s good at metaphorical concepts and brings animation to his raps like a Busta/Eminem/Wayne

He reminds me of Nas...especially as he's progressed in his career, he seems more heavily Nas-influenced now than he was initially, I mean lyrically.

If you can't listen to Reincarnated and get that feeling then we just understand lyricism differently.

Everybody has an opinion now. I don't know breh or his resume; but what I do know is he dressed like shyt sitting in a closed barbershop being a crab in a barrel.

Another old head in the clip was like "I listened to drill for an hour and felt crazy"

what a mess of a crowd. they really have no business in any of this; I get it this is probably their lifeline for any source of income but cot damn.

I wanna love that song badly, lol. It's dope regardless but I just can't take his voice seriously, he sounds so corny tryna "do" Pac, lol, pause. Love Kendrick, and the flow and cadence was super in pocket...his voice just ehh, kinda throws it off a little for me. It sounds more Nas than Pac, even with him channeling Pac, imo.

I ain't mad at somebody feeling that way. I was just speaking lyrically and the picture he's painting in the song and just the imagination of it all.

Serious question: What is a lyricist? Like is there an actual definition for it?

Crafting a good song is the definition of a lyricist.

If you keep it a buck a lot of 90s acts said a whole bunch of nothing on tracks and are revered as "lyricists"

Having metaphors; concepts; wordplay; double entendres; innuendo; etc......is lyricism.

East coast has high standards, yall take criticism as hate on some female shyt. Kendrick gets held at least from his fans up there with nas, so he's rated by east coast media members like you would Jay or nas. If nas dropped this album it would have been called garbage, trust me streets disciple was called garbage in real time. Kendrick doesn't have many contemporaries so he isn't held to the same standard as everyone else.

I'm from the east and it doesn't. If you look a lot of east coast "legends" and classic albums there is literally no expression of any type of lyricism on it. They're just from the east and have a sound. So it gets a pass. it literally is a bias.
