I don’t know how you can say he ain’t lyrical in the past year though
What else they gonna say ? All of their previous talking points got destroyed. They said Pac wasn't lyricist either after he came West.

It's like when people saying black qbs can't read defenses. They're just grasping for straws.

How is his opinion hate ?

To me Kendrick isn’t really a lyricist he’s never had a verse where I had to run it back cause it was crazy :manny:

Kendrick makes good music though puts thought in to the process and his concepts that’s something I could appreciate cause there’s more to rap than just wordplay
Two things can definitely be true.

He's kind of right. I am a Kendrick fan, he is top 10 as an overall Artist and in terms of body of work. However judging him as a lyricist, he is very good but not quite in the upper echelon. I think Kendrick would have been well received if he had emerged at the same time as The Native Tongue's movement, where the overall vibe of the song was as important, if not more than lyrics. If he had emerged at the same time as Nas, Wu-Tang, Mobb Deep, BIG, Pac he would have been overshadowed.

I don’t think he’s alien-tier with it lyrically but he’s def nice. And song-making wise he is kinda alien tier but that’s something else. A lot of people are just gonna give him random-hate right now just because lol, that’s how people are, they just have a proclivity to hate on shyt that everybody loves

There’s multiple types of lyricism but typically when people refer to lyricism and people being lyrical or not, they’re either speaking on having crazy wordplay or crazy with compound syllables and Kendrick really isn’t good at those things. He’s basically a 1 syllable bandit. And he doesn’t have like punchlines or play on words that’ll have you in awe.

But he has good vocabulary and very good imagery. That’s where he stands out as far as being a lyricist.

I remember him saying he basically does this on purpose because he realized that when you go super lyrical miracle you tend to lose people's ear. [he probably saw that with Ab-Soul]. So he decided to go the route of not wasting a word instead so that people ...basically he likes to bend words and focus on imagery & double meanings.

It's like dudes that were saying Drake won the battle because he had better punchlines and one-liners than Kendrick. For a lot of people that's all they see as lyricism. I lean more towards picture painters like an Andre 3K, Nas, and Kendrick where they ain't dropping verses making you scrunch your face up but they have a level of depth and introspection in their lyrics that many just don't comprehend lyrics deep enough to fully grasp.
