I don't think it's the worst of all the problems in the black community.
I just think it's ANOTHER problem which contributes to more problems. People who don't have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of will save up, steal, rob, etc do whatever for this prize of a Fendi belt, some damn red bottom heels (I can't spell dat ish and I'm on my iPad lol) or some $1000 designer sneakers...
These same people a lot of times are on welfare or have no or minimum wage type jobs, yet value this crap like its gold. I think the bigger problem is not using that money to save and better your situation or the value we give some damn shoes, jeans, and coats. I like nice things, but I buy what my money can afford. Sometimes it's nice ish, other times it's budget ish, most important thing is that it doesn't MAKE me, I'm comfortable with and in myself. I like the buying power arguement, that's where I feel we can make a difference. Stop overvaluing ish and put that money back into ourselves or communities...
