Americans as a whole are a materialistic group, it isn't solely the black community that lives above their means. There's a reason so many Americans are in debt and living paycheck. Credit card debt is in the billions in the U.S., and that's not just black people. Y'all need to stop putting white people on a pedestal in order to denigrate blacks and push your agenda. Our reasons for materialism are different. Most of grew up with nothing and when we finally get a lump sum we spend it to make up for the times that we didn't have shyt. I call it gold chain syndrome. Pay a car note on a Benz but still live in the projects. Poverty and self esteem are interconnected. We feel better about ourselves when wear or own something of value. It takes your mind off of what's going in your neighborhood. This shyt is just residual effect of our root problem.

I agree, I hate so see my brother and sistas who are struggling to make ends meet, yet they find money for Jordans, PS4s , Gucci belts and the like. But it's difficult because so many of us grew up without and once we get put on we just overcompensate and buy stuff instead of investing and seeking ownership and value.
