Craven deserves his props but I'm going with Carpenter mainly for "The Thing". The fact people still debate the movie's ending and who was assimilated and who wasn't says alot imo. That movie is a master-class of paranoia and creature design.
The Thing might be the best horror film ever made.Carpenter is leading the polls right now by a wide margin..
