It's American politics any argument can be framed in favor for any party/politician.
Liberal websites are taking this issue to focus on mass shootings with assault rifles. (AR-15 strikes again).
Conservative websites are taking this issue to focus on radical Islam.
Now if the guy came from Syria or another foreign Muslim country a few months ago you can't frame that. A Muslim ban would be all but certain.
