Sad to say while I woke up and was like :damn:, at the same time I’m not as suprised as I should be given the amount of people injured and killed.

Folks will say their prayers and what not and then go about their business and fukk all will be done to prevent it from happening again.

This is the new reality of life in the United States. Just the risk and normalcy of living here. That is why I’m not as shocked as I should be.

Some democratic congressman said he wasn’t joining the rest of the house in a moment of silence because these gestures are used to excuse not doing anything. He is God damn right.

That sounds like an automatic rifle. He definitely shouldn't have that.

if you have the money, which it sounds like this guy did (retired pilot, owned 2 planes), you can legally purchase fully automatic weapons.

even if you didn't want to pay the 15K for the documentation/licensing required to purchase an automatic weapon, you can spend a couple hundred and buy a bump fire stock. basically turns a semi auto rifle into fully automatic. all perfectly legal.

i bring this up because at the end of the day you will never be able to outrun the technology (even if you outlaw all guns today, are you also going to outlaw 3d printers?

you'll never be able to overturn centuries of legal precedent affirming right to gun ownership or the gun culture - it is ingrained too deeply within US society/history. we need to stop wasting time trying to take away guns and instead focus on:

1. Domestic terror intel - shame that trump cut the budget for this

2. More stringent background checks - I think the votes are there for this (you may get GOP votes in competitive districts/blue states)

Edit: computer cut out before I finished

Wtf did I wake up to
Mass shootings always get in my head and ruin my entire day. I was in 7th or 8th grade when columbine happened. Maybe that event just imprinted on me.

But I'm at work and this is the main thing I've thought about all day. Almost everyone else is able to just say how fukked up it is and handle business.

Maybe I'm just super sensitive. I'm not sure. Mass shootings make me so sad.

:mjcry:

Truth be told, after Sandy hook, i feel completely numb to this type of stuff. I think gun control is a lost cause in this country, the gun culture is too deeply ingrained. I think one thing that can be focused on and pushed hard is ending is the media pushing this a lone wolf attack, call it what it is, white terrorism.

The comments in the NYT article.

"If a pile of dead 3rd graders (Sandy Hook) won't bring about reasonable gun control in America 50 dead country music fans won't either."

"Imagine a world where after a plane crash, we did nothing to investigate, claim "it's too early to talk about airline safety", did nothing to address the cause, and blithely went on our merry way...air travel would be a terrifying nightmare. But, of course we don't, because to do otherwise would be irrational and clearly not in anyone's best interest. The public would find that unacceptable and demand action to make flying safer. And as a result, air crashes are now rare.

But somehow, we manage to suspend all rational follow through when it comes to guns."

"The term "worst mass shooting in American history," like "warmest year on record," has lost all meaning for me."
