Because a lot of people are financially hurting right now, good way to ground the show and empathize with the audience. Also world building by revealing a little more about an aspect of the MCU people have wondered about....how do they get paid?

Like when Vision cop'd that house for Wanda I remember people going, where this nikka get money from?

:leostare:

Another way to show the absence of Ironman..

Considering that they knew they were getting Luke Cage back, having two super hero preacher kids from Harlem might be a bit redundant. I would HOPE they took that into consideration with making such a change.
I'm not a fan of realistic socio-economic issues in my comic book movies. And Sam is a gainfully employed military contractor so he has a source of income.
This just felt like some old Good Times bullshyt that was totally unnecessary and makes the Bubba Gumpiness of Sam's back story even worse..

And Luke Cage's dad is a cop. That reverend shyt was something they did in the show and since that aint canon if they intro Luke Cage into the MCU they aren't beholden to what went on in the Netflix shows.

I watched a couple interviews with the head writer and the director of the show and the way they make it sound working for Marvel is they have creative producers who partner with the talent, they let the talent do whatever they want writing and directing the story BUT they stop them if they are doing something too out of step with comic lore but it seemed like moreso stuff out of step with other MCU projects. The director said she has no idea what's going on with other Marvel projects but if she makes a choice that is in conflict with another project these creative producers will tell them they can't do that. And also they are not obligated to follow the comics at all. They are given a lot of related comics to their project and are expected to read them but they are not mandated to include anything. The easter eggs in scenes and stuff is also the creative producers. The actual director and writers don't even have to worry about that stuff either.
So the main point is the comics now more than ever are not the driver of these stories so expect a lot of variation between the MCU and past comics.

Ok.... now that we all seen it by now..... I’m kinda shocked we saw Rhodes, I didn’t even know Don filmed scenes for this show and it’s cool to see that him and Sam have like a friendship.

I don’t think the MCU really had them share too many scenes together since like the end of I believe A1 and A2 party at Tony’s mansion

Falcon dope as fukk though.... he was putting in some real work.
And Civil War when they were riding for their white boys

I DID think the explanation surrounding the lack of finances for Sam was a little weak. I definitely get the whole “gone for five years” thing, that makes perfect sense. But The Avengers not getting paid and getting by on “Good Will” is bullshyt. If i’m not mistaken even in the comics the Avengers were bankrolled by Shield and given a stipend (except for Blank Panther who had no need of it)

It would be more realistic if Sam was broke because he decided to go with Steve and become a fugitive after Civil War so the Government froze all of his assets and terminated his military benefits. Now that he’s back and obviously been pardoned he’s got to get back on his feet. That makes sense.
