Sam seems more like a "protect the innocent" over "stop the bad guy" type of hero.

Like some people earlier said a Superman type. Spider-Man and Capt. America are some of the few traditional DC style heroes at Marvel.

With that being said I'm fine with Sam being portrayed as not being the best at cqc. His character is a para rescue in origin. As long as he's portrayed as one of the best if not the best hero when it comes to rescuing and protecting I'm cool. And I think he showed that in the finale.

Kevin Feige Nixed a Spider-Man Cameo in Falcon and Winter Soldier
Falcon and Winter Soldier showrunner Malcolm Spellman reveals how Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige hit the brakes on a Spider-Man appearance.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier included characters from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including the Dora Milaje from Black Panther and James "Rhodey" Rhodes. However, showrunner Malcolm Spellman revealed Spider-Man was off-limits.

Spellman told Inverse how Marvel Studios President and Marvel Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige nixed an appearance from Spider-Man in the Falcon and Winter Soldier finale. When asked if there was a chance Tom Holland's Peter Parker could cameo in the finale, Spellman responded, "Of course! Then Kevin Feige tells you, 'No. Stop it.'"

However, Spellman said this was due to story-based reasons. "Listen, when you first show up to these projects, in your mind you think you're gonna get to use everybody in the MCU," he said. "But Marvel always asks, 'Does this person belong in this story? You cannot just geek out and put all of our characters in your project because you like them. They have to occur organically.' So Spider-Man did not make it."

Though he didn't appear in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's finale, Tom Holland is set to reprise his role as Peter Parker later this year in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Details for the film have been scarce, but multiple actors from previous Spider-Man films -- including Alfred Molina and Jamie Foxx -- are slated to return in the conclusion to Jon Watts' trilogy.

Directed by Kari Skogland, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier stars Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp, Wyatt Russell, Noah Mills, Carl Lumbly and Daniel Brühl. The series is now streaming on Disney+.
