Actually Nick Fury is alive he isnt an alien, he just asked the alien to take his place while he's doing shyt in outer space... There's an after credits scene that explains it. also I figure he's in charge of S.W.O.R.D.

Looking back at Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Sam wasn't given many opportunities to be cool

He was insecure about being Cap in the first place

 He was soft on the villian

He didn't have anything resembling a love interest(this matters when it comes to male superheroes). Steve had Peggy, Sharon, and mild flirtations with Black Widow

He got that WACK ass costume

Young black kids don't look at Sam Wilson and want to emulate that, and the adults are more vocal about calling him corny

And this is coming from somebody that liked the show and defended Sam for months
