Is reboots the reason comic book sales have gone down or just an outdated media being that paper is slowly dying?:patrice:

No one really buys newspapers anymore hence why a lot of Newpaper companies are shutting down or downgrading, I couldnt see why this wouldnt be an issue for comic book fans. I mean why would anyone want to go out and buy comics anymore now that its known you can just get them from a torrent or some sites similar to manga where you can just scroll and read?

:jbhmm:

Probably only the GEEKIEST of GEEKS still buy comics:yeshrug:

Spider man and batman still sell well. Obviously they're not selling like the early 90s lol but sales for their books specifically not starring spider man are lower than expected which is what they said on their conference call a couple weeks ago and all that hubbub happened with diversity etc. Rebirth was a shot in the arm for DC so hopefully marvel can get the same benefit. Also when they talk sales they're including digital

Theres a comic book store I pass a lot at this are where there are a few places to eat and coffee shops, I swear I never see more then 4-10 people in there at a time and the workers just look bored.

Cats I know that like comics read them shyts from a device of some sort and they aint buying. Hell they put me on, thats how I read the entire Injustice series

I'm guessing it's the direct market. Years and years ago, before most of us were even alive, comics used to be sold in newspaper stands and grocery checkout aisles and places like that. While enjoyable for all ages, most American superhero comics (pre-Watchmen) were aimed at kids who got to "grow up" with the characters. Kids would see the new issue of Spider-man and beg their parents for a copy. However, the problem with that model was that publishers had to pay for the unsold stock if the sales on their books were :flabbynsick: .

This is why they have specialized comic shops now. The comic shops buy everything, and whatever doesn't sell? The comic shops have to pick up the slack and not the publishers. While this helped the publishers in the short run, the consequences come with the fact that that comics aren't really sold in places where regular people frequent. Thus not a lot of people are really into the hobby anymore besides nerds like me.

According to some, this began a vicious cycle of comics becoming impenetrable for new readers, and becoming increasingly written and aimed solely at the aging fans who have been reading for the last 25+ years, and nobody else.

Hence, the overabundance of fake moral dilemmas, superhero in-fighting, and all the Watchmen-lite horsecrap you see in a lot of (but NOT ALL) comics today.

That's col breh but thats your anecdotal evidence. I'm going off of what actual companies are saying and they're own expectations. Marvel, DC, and Image expect to sell a specific amount of comics each month. Thats what they tell their shareholders, thats how they handle their accounting. So when they don't meet those numbers, things change. Whether it's a change in creative or a change in direction companywide. This isn't the first time this has happened and we all should know it ain't the last.

Comics Up, Graphic Novels Down in March 2017 Sales Led by $10 SPIDER-MAN

DC Comics Pulls Ahead of Marvel in March's Direct Market Sales

Thats a list of sales from March and also a list of direct sales, which are subscriptions and how many comics shipped to retailers based on demand. So yes, sales are down in relation to the 80s and early 90s before the bubble burst, but they've adjusted for those differences and adjust their expectations. When those expectations aren't reached, stuff happens:manny:

Plus I can imagine even though essentially its not a lot but as with everything else them prices have rose and they may have outpriced themselves. Like wasnt comics in the late 80's and early 90's still like under a dollar? Now what them shyts like $3-$6 for an issue?

Again, to anyone that's got a job thats not a problem but for say kids with allowances of $5-$20 a week/month thats a lot. When I was a kid I remember with them little allowances you could got out and get like 3 comics, some candy, a couple of honeybuns and drinks (that Welchs Grape) and still have change to spare.

I feel you.... just hopefully when you say "companies" these companies are credible and aint telling them Vince McMahon :flabbynsick::flabbynsick:E Ducktales :duck: Like if it be a Monday Night with the NCAA Finals/BCS on Monday and maybe a war or some shyt just broke out with CNN and Fox is heavily covering it, while the latest trailer from a future comic book movie just dropped, Mayweather/McGregor fight signed, and them Beyonce nudes or sextape with Cam'ron released all in the same night.

Then Vince be like "RAW was the most heavily watched/highest rated show over NBC, ABC, FOX, CBS, TNT, TBS combined and was the number one trending topic in the world"

Top Trends:
1-Roman Reign talks about He's The Guy
2-Fin Balor
3-Beyonce/Cam'ron Sextape
4-FINAL FOUR
5-War against N. Korea
6-Big Cass Turn on Enzo
7-Black Panther trailer drops, Spiderman Cameo
8-Sasha Banks
9-Mayweather/McGregor fight official
10-Kurt Angle

You're telling me to trust companies to use whatever they can do push a positive message aka marketing:russ:

I trust these guys A LOT more than Vince, who's proven what a deranged pos he is and how out of touch he is. Comic book companies actually WANT dissenting voices in the company and new blood with a new outlook on things rather than obeying the whim of a senior citizen

Yup just like movie theaters. "Sold out" means they overbooked the theater half the time lol. And I work in communications for the government so yeah the hustle methods are always apparent.

Yea, in the entertainment field, if a venue has a capacity of say 16k and there are roughly 50-300 seats left.... its Sold Out.

That when cats work that magic of moving some tickets around to fill in some glaring holes and set the lights darker in other areas like the top.

Them hustle methods indeed
