What comic book movies from the past 20 years have had great villains? Because outside of The Joker I'm not seeing this trend of great villains that Marvel alone fails to live up to.

Fred.

Bane and Ra's... if you want to talk about TV, Deathstroke and Lex. Then there's V for Vendetta. And if we're not including Raimi's Spider-Man or Singer's X-men then we got Doc Ock, Magneto, the Sentinels this year.... :yeshrug:

The villians in Spiderman were 1-D except for William Dafoe being Green Goblin. He was it.

Fassbender's Magneto is that dude :whew:

This is true, and no disrespect to Ian McKellen, but the cinematic Magneto prior to that wasn't some kind of :whoo:level depiction of the character.

That's my point though. For every one great villain you can name, there is probably 10 that aren't very good. From anywhere, not just Marvel.

The sole reason Marvel is getting this level of scrutiny is because they're winning right now.

Winning what? If you are talking about Marvel vs. DC.. Marvel started the MCU YEARS ago.. All DC has done so far is Man of Steel and that made around $700M worldwide which is perfectly fine for Superman's first motion picture since Superman Returns which was just an extension of the Donner era.

Before that they did the Nolan trilogy Batman films and the last two both did over a billion worldwide.

Their only failure was Green Lantern and they are sweeping that under the rug :mjlol:

t-dot till they bury me
The fact you used this GIF basically proved his point.

abomination
loki
a pierce
winter soldier
killian

all these guys gave their respective protagonists challenges

Grammar of this following statement aside: op was negged because he/she refers to "track record", assumes forth coming movies will not yield formidable villains, makes what I perceive as a condescending remark stating that "we're thoroughly entertained" watching these less than formidable villains, yet lists out 11 different villains so I'm assuming that he/she has viewed these villains on screen

He/she isnt obviously entertained, yet he/she viewed Marvel's rinse/repeat "non-formidable" villains over 9 movies? :dwillhuh::leostare::camby:

Marvel started the MCU YEARS ago....

That's exactly my point.

The MCU has 10 movies, all interlocked in varying ways, that tell one long story, about the Infinity Stones. The culmination of which should be "The Avengers 3", in 2019.

The president of DC would give his left nut to have that level of foresight 5-6 years ago, which is why they're scrambling to make a "Justice League" movie.

DC has nothing going on besides Batman and Superman. Marvel is so far ahead of the game they're breaking records with D tier comic characters like "Guardians Of The Galaxy".

That's what I mean by winning.

And this ain't even about Marvel vs DC. It's about the internet being overly critical of anything that's successful. Nobody was talking about "Marvel has weak villains" prior to "Guardians Of The Galaxy" blowing the fukk up.

Marvel's problem is creating movies just to make them for profit instead of focusing on movies that they know will be liked by the fans. They created alot of sequels that were pointless and some originals that weren't up to par with comic standards.

Comic films were going on for years and Batman created the big break for everyone and only TMNT did well and after that, comic book films went into a slump. Once Marvel had to look into making films become more realistic and more character driven is where their big break began. Blade took that spark. Internet critique sometimes is a pain in the ass but sometimes necessary to the degree of how the film is made. Btw....people were talking about the Marvel villians before that.

How was The Winter Soldier not formidable?:wtf: He gave every main character that work(critically wounded 3) over the course of the film and was imposing throughout:wtf:. He even outshined Captain America, who looked 10x better than how he was done in the first film and The Avengers.
