One thing that is nice about Karate is that a lot of schools do engage in full contact sparring. That's my gripe with most traditional martial arts schools, along with too much emphasis on forms.

If you arent sparring whats the point. You wont be punching air when some animal is trying to eat your face off. I dont think schools that only practice forms can really prepare an individual for the kind of monsters that exist in the world. Compliant drills, soft contact make you a compliant and soft fighter. When the pressure is put on it makes you resort to fighting like an animal. Wild haymakers and just a lack of thought, control and patience in your art. Ive seen many a black belt get smacked in the face and just throw technique out the window. This is why its important to spar so you can not only be prepared among your peers but against people who may actually be trying to knock your head off in real life.

Boxing is that stuff. I recommend it as a starter MA for anyone trying to get nasty because even if you have a shytty teacher you'll probably spar, learn mental toughness, polish a few strikes very well, and develop a lil killing instinct.

Kyokushin Mixed with judo and bjj. Once one has gained knowledge in these arts he crosses the threshold from man to deity comrades, It's Goonlike trust me. The peace of mind one is granted knowing he has no immediate combat threats in his neighborhood is the true meaning of inner peace :wow:. But be careful with this great power for you now can dictate the fates of those around you, which can mutate a young Goon into a ferocious beast of anatomical destruction with no concience. Be careful Comrades

You have to be careful who you take on as a student. There are reasons why masters dont give attention to certain students. Some are only there to learn how to kill. They have no respect for people around them or themselves and pretty much want to learn to dominate and harm others. What you said is on point though. When you're striking/ground game world class (you can go anywhere in the world and give competition to high level guys) you're on another level physically. But the climb is not over.. Now, its time to learn weapons. Offense, defense and disarm. The system of combat has many tiers and we must take time to learn it from the bottom to the top to truely call ourselves warriors, even if we're weekend/9-5 warriors :mj:

The most basic thing anyone who wants to learn how to defend themself should do is at least learn how to block/counter/dodge haymakers and control distance. Also, keep your hands up. How many people get ko'd because they stood there not even facing their opponent while dude tees off on their head. How many cats get ko'd because of wild looping haymakers that could have been ducked/slipped. These basics alone will save you alot of embarrassment and injury.

 Full contact sparring is the ultimate test of how skilled a person is. Forms don't mean anything in my opinion. :manny:

Forms have their place. Their purpose is to teach basic combinations and movement patterns, and if you practice them right can be useful for learning the power generation mechanics for your particular art. Shadowboxing combos in boxing is basically a form. The point is not to focus all your training and learning time on forms. as far as effectiveness for training in TMA they have their purpose.

They just arent as important as 2 man drills, and definitely not as important as conditioning and single movements practice.

Pretty much the only things people have ever tried to hit me with in an actual fight are tackles and big right hand swings. Maybe someones tried to kick me with their left or hit with their left at one time, but thats pretty much the go to natural move for most people imo.

Always waned to try Muy Thai

It basically conditions you to take punishment and give it out. Your hands wont be as nice as a boxer but it does put you on tank status to a degree. Just taking shots like :ahh: Your kicks will be incredibly crippling and will not often go above the waist. You kick someone in the rib or leg to start a fight, mentally, the average joe will break right there and thats what fighting is about. Making someone feel like they are going to perish and theres nothing they can do about it.
