Don't want to speak anything bad into your marriage, but it's my opinion that having seperate accounts leads to one or both people making money decisions that they know the other wouldn't approve of. And once the secrets come out trust is lost.

That's her money that she makes. If the bills are being paid there is nothing she can do with her Money that I would disapprove of

Maybe I missed it, but did any of the separate account folks lay out how their finances work? How do you all pay bills, save, etc?

Are y'all putting half on bills & keeping the rest of your individual checks?

Y'all saving? Investing?
We split the bills up and have set amount that we put into a savings account each month.

Half half on each bill? You pay this they pay that? Contribution dependant on income?

IMO, savings is the most important. Depending on how y'all do bills, that's not much different than what joint account folks do.

Aside from folks having secret accounts, I think most do slightly different variations of the same thing.

Actually, Im guessing the amount y'all keep for yourselves is based on how much you make individually. That would be a big difference.

Just give her your check and let her manage everything.

We make roughly the same so we split the total bills amount in half

And how would a secret account be any different fro one spouse having a personal savings account ?

Cool. So, if one of you made more, that person would pay a higher % of bills and contribute more to savings, or have more spending money?

The difference would be it being a secret.

But a personal savings account? What would be the purpose?

I make substantially more than my future wife so that's a no-go. That isn't to say that she doesn't pull weight with her finances because she does but when it comes to big shyt, i'm the one with the money. However, as long as shyt gets covered and bought, she doesn't trip. She knows i'm spending a grip on electronics like the both new consoles and new tablet this year. However, as long as I hold down the house with shyt, she doesn't care.
