No. There is no such thing as "your own money"

Thoughts like that are why marriages fail.
Look at the poster who said he's been married for 10 years with separate accounts. Doesn't seem like having his own money hasn't ruined his relationship

Can't you do all of that with separate accounts though? If they want to spend money, shouldn't they spend their own? After paying bills of course.
I don't think you can work together financially with separate accounts, it just doesn't seem possible to me. If someone has a hard time budgeting or overspends their money, it's hard for the other partner to see this behavior until it's too late. I think the couple should have separate spending money but anything over that should be a discussion and I think those discussions will happen less if the accounts are separate.

Nope. But the moment he or his wife find out the other is doing something wih money they didn't know/approve of. Trust will be irreversibly lost.

that can happen with or without separate accounts.

Not really. if you have joint accounts and you know how much each person is pulling in, then you will know if money is being spent or moved around.

Having separate accounts creates an environment for more secrets. It could start off as innocent as buying a pair of shoes or an extra round of drinks, but that only leads to more secrets, deceit and fukkery.

And I'm not trying to tell you what your doing is wrong. If its working for you keep it up. I'm just giving my opinion.

In my opinion the word "seperate" doesn't belong in a marriage. If you want seperate things you shouldn't have gotten married. The only reason to have seperate accounts is to hold secrets or a back up plan. Both of those things are detrimental to the prospects of a successful marriage.

There's several examples of this in this thread, and as long as the bills get paid and a bit is put into savings, what else you need to work together on?

Have joint accounts and have every penny you spend scrutinized brehs...
They why you create a budget and review it together regularly. Unless you both are in deep debt there is no reason why your spending money after savings and bills should be scrutinized. Now if yall have debt to pay off it may be reasonable to cut down spending or monitor miscellaneous spending for the good of the family.
