Some of you in the WFH threads thought that you'd be able to "finesse" a big city salary while living out in the sticks where the CoL is lower. These companies were always one step ahead. They're viewing it as relocation and are adjusting salaries as such.

Yeah nothing wrong with what he said and I suspect as more companies are looking to work from home, they'll pay according to region more.

Makes sense, got no issue with that. Florida needs to pay more though.

they just gonna lie about their residence. give the address of a relative or friend in a pricey neighborhood. people been doing this shyt for years just to get their kids in a certain school district, they'll definitely do it to get an extra 10k-40k in pay.

Smart but I’m sure one’s IP address will let Facebook or any company worth a crap know where one is really located. Our phones literally track us but Facebook who tracks us as a service wouldn’t be hip.

My boy went through the same thing. He used to live up in Mt.Vernon, his job opened up an office near Nashville and he transferred and they let him keep his NY salary, he's loving life now.

I think the pay will still be quite high. They're still competing for top talent and I don't think all their senior engineers making $400k+ will be okay with taking a cut to $150k even if they're moving to a low cost of living area, at least in the short term. You do that and another big company offers $300k and poaches your top talent. These tech companies have such high margins they can do that. Maybe if all the companies collude to lower wages that won't happen.

If they own it, they'll want to keep it unless because of the value the land holds and will hold. If they rent, they'll terminate the lease.

I’m sure facebooks IT department would be able to track wherever you’re working from, especially if you’re on their secure network. My company can do this and we are a bank.

As work from home increases, not only will they check your IP, but they will probably have other productivity monitors such as mouse and keyboard input and I wouldn't put it past companies to monitor employees from their laptop cameras.

This WFH is not going to be as good as people think it will be.

Yeah that’s the scary part. You work on a company issued laptop with a camera, can they log into the camera to see what you are doing? Privacy issues is going to be a big deal.

I always wondered about this. 80K will have you living the country club golf membership suburban life in the sticks. But in New York city you'd be in a two bedroom apt living paycheck to paycheck. If i could finesse something like that, I'd already have a mansion on my current salary somewhere in the south.
