they just gonna lie about their residence. give the address of a relative or friend in a pricey neighborhood. people been doing this shyt for years just to get their kids in a certain school district, they'll definitely do it to get an extra 10k-40k in pay.

I’m sure facebooks IT department would be able to track wherever you’re working from, especially if you’re on their secure network. My company can do this and we are a bank.

They're not going to pay Palo Alto rates to a guy working 100% remote in bumfukk Kansas though, nor would I expect them to. Commercial Real Estate is going to go through hell
Yeah we know how this would fukk with real estate because now instead of people getting kicked out of their homes because a cac company decides to move in a poorer area to avoid taxes and tons of high paid employees move into poorer areas to avoid a commute, they will now all move into the same area to drive up housing prices because they want to and would not think of all moving to separate areas.

You can be tracked by your IP especially if you have to log in through the company's portal in order to work as @Atlrocafella said.

they can track an IP address of a VPN server to wherever a user places it.

go one step further, an enterprising technician can have a whole bank of raspberry pis or vpn server VM's just for his relatives or friends to have access to a local local san francisco residential IP address. unless facebook does surprise home visits, people will finesse their way around this policy.

I don't see anything wrong with this. If you're working for Facebook, but working from home in South Dakota, you're still ahead of the game with that localized pay cut.
And someone else is getting more money for doing the same work as you, this would be like penalizing someones pay because they bought a cheaper house or car so your boss is like you don't need it

No, that's called cost of living. It's the difference of getting a very good six figure salary, but still struggling to live because of the obscene cost of living, and taking a pay cut but living the life because you move out of that area.
