It’s looking like it’s going to bomb. I saw something saying that it’s going to make Jonah Hex money.
I have my thoughts. It might be too soon to speculate. I think the R rating may have been a mistake. I’m looking at a showtime at 9:13pm last night in Clifton, for a 9:15pm showing and it was half full. That theater is a hotspot for teens. That’s a huge chunk of people who aren’t going to be able to see this. One of my younger cousins loves Harley Quinn. She doesn’t understand how I can’t enjoy Suicide Squad. She can’t go see this with her teen girlfriends. This is also nowhere near as funny as Deadpool to attract enough adults. It’s a waste of an R rating.
Also, and I hate to say this. The movie isn’t sexy. It’s sexy in a everyday sort of way. Like that good looking woman you see on the subway platform heading to work. It’s not going to get chicks running to cosplay this shyt. I don’t intend to rate the looks of the women in the movie, but there’s something Patty Jenkins said about, while these movies do have strong and positive female characters, it’s still through a male gaze. I get that they want to break the typical molds of the type of women you see in these types of movies, and how they look. But does the general audience of women, who they want to go see this movie, do they want to see these female characters through that male gaze? Do they want to see characters they can look like, or do they want to see women they’re going to envy and want to be like but can’t?
