How is it not fair for the NFL?If you don't think the kid is ready for the NFL,just don't draft him. You're right in saying that every kid isn't Dorial, every 19 year old shouldn't be given that opportunity. However,if a 19 year old is so special that he is given a 1st/2nd round grade after one year he should be given the option to leave.

Let's be real for a second, there isn't a big difference between 19 and 21 year olds from a mental standpoint. If a kid is mentally able to handle getting his legs blown off in a Cave in Afghanistan,he can handle being in the NFL.

Because you'd be flooding the market with a bunch of dangerous players, and the hype machine would be working overtime to get these dudes drafted. We don't need a return to the former NBA type draft system where you had a bunch of scouts drafting 18-19 year olds based on potential, then the guy gets to camp and can't play for shyt.

These agents prey on families. They tell a kid he can make it, they get scouts to go along, and the kid gets drafted. Agent gets a piece of that check while the player fails out of the league and ends up in debt. And unlike NBA players, NFL players don't have as many decent-good options in terms of other leagues to make money in. You fail in the NFL and you head to some pretty bad lower leagues...

If they go broke, they go broke

I was 17, I had to a sign a paper that I was legally obligated to pay my student loans

It's one thing to go broke because you're 30 and experiencing a mid-life crisis. It's another to go broke when you're 19 because people you trust are taking advantage of you because you don't know any better.

lets be real about this, NFL teams do a better job at drafting players than NBA teams. The NBA teams did that because they had terrible GMs. NFL teams have a higher success rate than NBA teams at drafting. They dont fall for hype, and have even stopped lusting over combine results.

this is going on right now with college football players. A lot of guys get told to leave after their junior year when they arent ready. You arent saying anything.

They have higher success rates in part because the talent pool they're looking at is deeper than the dilluted pool the NBA dealt with...

You don't believe it would be much worse if they could target sophomores too? Especially in light of injuries like Marcus'?

I'd love to see stats that back this up.

wasn't there something that said the success rate of straight outta hs/one and done players in the NBA was exactly the same as the ones that stayed in college for longer?

What does that have to do with football?

someone was talking about how NBA teams were awful at drafting 18-19 year olds.

In the NFL I think most positions need to stay in college for the 3+-years, but there are more than a few WR-RB who could have broken into the NFL after 2 years with little problem.

my belief is that the NFL front offices have a better idea of what they are looking for than NBA teams.

You don't believe it would be much worse if they could target sophomores too? Especially in light of injuries like Marcus'?
man, they are already targeting freshman and sophomores. Reggie Bush, no?
