Timeout..this is a thing? My homegirl does it but I figured it was just her because she's got the attention span of a fruit fly. I do it with kung fu flicks but you cats actually do it for english movies??

You brehs need to at least get a soundbar. With Dolby Digital Plus on Netflix, and HD audio, nothing should be inaudible with the right speakers. Watch movies with 15 watt speakers brehs.

IT'S FOR PEOPLE WIT ADD OR BAD HEARING....I THINK IT TAKES YOUR FOCUS OFF THE ACTUAL MOVIE. MIGHT AS WELL READ THE BOOK.

MY NETFLIX AUTOMATICALLY HAS THE SUB-TITLES, I ACTUALLY GOTA TURN THEM OFF.

never considered it before but I finally did this during beasts of no nation.

can't lie the captions were VERY helpful. would have probably had difficulty catching all the dialogue with those heavy accents.

"you guys like big black blocks on the screen" :dahell:
You guys only seen the tv set's caption options or something?
You can get subs w/o the black bg, and only show the letters(especially from a site like subscene). There have been customization options for subs for a while.
I even go so far as to dl subs and hardcode them to my movies/shows when I watch em on hdd via ps4.:blessed:

Gotta get your subtitle reading game up. You don't actually focus so hard on reading them that you ignore everything else on the screen. It's more of a peripheral vision type of thing. The size should be decent to where you just look at the screen normally.
This right here.

And I prefer subtitles to dubs on foreign films.

But having subtitles on, less likely to miss shyt -- and it's also mindblowing to read subtitles when you thought you heard something else. It's funny when the chyron operator starts to say it 'fukk it' sometimes. And it's worth knowing who puts effort in to subtitles, and who's on some 'whatever' shyt.

I started doing it with British shows and movies like Sherlock Holmes and Harry Potter because the accent is so thick, I always miss what they're saying. After that, I started doing it with Breaking Bad because sometimes Jesse's slang and speech pattern was jumbled, so I would miss stuff. Same with The Wire. Then Game of Thrones because they were speaking in a weird hybrid old world and made up language and I definitely didn't want to miss anything there. After awhile, it just became habit, and now it's mandatory in my home.

that shyt is too much to process sometimes. i miss out on shyt happening on screen because i'm reading...then i miss the words because i'm actually watching the movie

Back in the 90s when i started rocking subs with the OG kung fu flicks i used a rule of 2..
Watch the movie twice.. once for the action (reading what ever I could but not focusing on it) and then again to read...
Now it doesnt even bother me

Because actors mumble and talk in rapid slang that really isn't English. You seriously understood everything that was said in The Wire the first time it came on?
