Because actors mumble and talk in rapid slang that really isn't English. You seriously understood everything that was said in The Wire the first time it came on?
Yeah for the most part:yeshrug:. Maybe it's because I got good hearing and actually pay attention when I'm watching something. When it comes to slang, 9 times out of 10 I can usually tell by the context of the conversation what a certain word means.

I don't know man, I just couldn't ever see myself using subtitles when I'm watching something in English.

Obviously since English isn't my first language but yeah, I prefer to watch everything with subs. It's not a complete necessity but I loathe being unable to make out even the tiniest piece of dialogue for whatever reason.

Hmm, maybe. It could be because I'm older, but the slang in The Wire, and the hybrid language of Game of Thrones really had me straining sometimes. I hate guessing what was said. Different strokes though.

Only use subtitles if I'm multitasking with some vacuuming or whatever but sometimes I really gotta run shyt back because the actor mumbles a line :manny:
