One thing no one ever brings up... If Melo and Lebron declined opting out they would both be available in 2015.

Apparently Bargnani and Amare both have ETO's this year.....

:ohhh::patrice:

EDIT

STAT can go play in Israel a year early and Bargnani can go home to his Mother Country. Win-Win for everyone.

In phil we trust....

I don't want to hear any more about the Knick front office. Phil got this.

If we get melo to sign for less... great. If he wants the max and Phil maxes him out, great. If he wants to go somewhere else... great.

Let the church say amen.

:whew:

Nah anyone whos watched Melo would knows giving him the kobe max would be assinine as great as Phil is if he did that either hes gone senile or Dolan is still running the show

Carmelo says he wants to stay, but doesn’t want to rebuild

Carmelo Anthony said after his exit meeting with Knicks president Phil Jackson he definitely “wants to stay,’’ that the “grass isn’t always greener on the other side,’’ but competing for a title is still the No. 1 priority in his free-agent decision.

Anthony said he spoke with Jackson for 12 minutes and came away extremely impressed with his communication skills, though he admitted Jackson didn’t map out the plan for the franchise yet.

“I want to come back,” Anthony said Thursday at the Tarrytown practice facility. “I want to come back. If me wanting to be here, if we can put ourselves in a position to compete at a high level over the course of five years, whatever that contract will be, I’m willing to stay here. I never once said I wanted to leave. I always said I want to explore options and see what’s out there.”

In a surprising development, Anthony also gave his strongest endorsement this season of lame-duck coach Mike Woodson, saying he’d give him “a recommendation’’ if that’s what it would take for Woodson to return next season.

“Mike Woodson has become a guy I can talk to, almost a father figure, a friend, a guy I can bounce stuff off of,” Anthony said. “I’ve been a guy he’s talked to about multiple things. When that time comes, if it’s ready for me to step up and take the next step, [of answering whether] Mike Woodson needs to stay or go, I don’t think it will come down to that, but I would back him. If he needs my recommendation, here or anywhere else, I’d back him. I have nothing bad to say about Mike Woodson. For me as a player, I had some of my best years under Mike Woodson.’’

Anthony said he enjoyed immensely his conversation with Jackson.

“There was some insight,’’ Anthony said. “Phil always comes with some kind of knowledge. Which is always good. We didn’t get into detail any specifics about anything. We went on a recap of the season. We didn’t get into details about anything specific. His knowledge and wisdom is something I can sit down and listen to all day long. He’s very philosophical. He has a scenario. He has an answer for every scenario. He makes everything clear. Just the way he talks and his delivery and message for me something I can listen to all day.”

Still, Anthony said winning is the only thing.

“At this point of my career, it’s about winning — nothing else really matters,” he said. “That’s not going to change. That’s still going to be my mindset. It is my mindset. That’s going to be my No. 1 thing.’’

Anthony is hoping Jackson’s plan is not to tank next season in preparation for 2015.

“I’m not at a point where I want to rebuild,’’ Anthony said. “If we can work with the pieces we have and Phil brings his knowledge of running a basketball program to this, we can have a lot of talk.’’

Asked about teams that could be closer to a title such as Chicago and Houston, Melo said, “Other teams that’s out there, the best situation, you never know. Sometimes the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.”

Anthony said of missing the playoffs: “It’s embarrassing. For me. I can’t even put that into words. I can’t describe the feeling.’’

He also said he began rehab for his right shoulder labrum tear on Wednesday.

So...

We really are acting like Melo is on some Lebron shyt where he relies on his athleticism?

The idea that LeBron "relies on his athleticism" is one of the great myths in the smart-dumb mothafukka messageboard idiocracy.

You're talking about a dude that has improved EVERY ASPECT OF HIS GAME over the years, becoming more efficient year over year.

Starting your post with that nonsense gets you instantly clowned for not understanding the game or actually watching LeBron play.

I certainly wouldn't do it.

But I'm going to go ahead and trust Phil Jackson's judgement - for now - over mine, and yours.

Phil Jackson’s offseason to-do list for Knicks

A look at the five offseason priorities for new Knicks team president Phil Jackson:

1. Hire a new coach to replace Mike Woodson — someone, perhaps with experience running the triangle offense, he can mold into the great leader the Zen Master became.

2. Ensure Carmelo Anthony re-signs, selling the impending free agent on his winning formula and 2015 cap-space plan.

3. Investigate whether Tyson Chandler and his expiring contract will have decent trade value this offseason for a title contender, with hopes of landing prospects or picks while keeping open 2015 cap space.

4. Upgrading the point-guard position with anyone other than Raymond Felton, who had a rough season lowlighted by gun-possession charges.

5. Decide whether to take Iman Shumpert off the trading block and get his confidence back up. Or see if the Clippers’ Darren Collison still can be had in a trade. Word is, Jackson loves Shumpert’s defense.

But it's true. Yes Lebron has improved his skill set, and he was already skilled coming into the league. But I believe there's some stats that point out his extremely high fg% near the basket plus low jump shooting percentage. That's him exploding to the rim as a 6'8 240 freight train.

Take away his athleticism and is he skilled enough to dominate like pierce (2 yrs ago), Melo, Kobe, Jordan? I dunno.

With a slippage in athleticism, Bron will probably be the equivalent of a Luol Deng.

Okay...

with respect to Lebron relying on his athleticism in context, I'm not saying something outlandish.

Lebron HAS improved every aspect of his game over the years. I know this, however, one of the biggest things about the greatest player in the world are his "offensive options".

I will argue that Lebron's drive ability, his strength + his speed, force defenses to work around his athleticism which creates opportunities for him. If we take that aspect away, he will still be great, but would he dominate? I think there is an argument that he may not.

I was not saying that "without athleticism he is NOTHING". No. He will still be formidable however, Melo is the type of player that has a skill set that will have no real hiccup when atrophy kicks in.

We are having actual mature convo about this breh, and you come form left field like I'm taking the same tin foil hat shyt as a nikka who says shyt like, "Trade Melo for all of the players on Golden State!!" and a Lebron troll face.

FOH.

You have a great counter argument that Lebron's Basketball I.Q and adaptation will further evolve him into a player that will completely adjust at an elite level when atrophy kicks in but why discredit my arguemtn as if I'm trying to through the nikka in the bushes.

Are you seriously saying that there is NO WAY that Lebron's depreciating athleticism could be a concern when it comes to assessing the consistent elite performance of superstars?

5 years from now, Lebron will still be better than 95% of the players in the league. I'm not comparing him to Jermaine O' Neal bruh.

And do you totally discredit my point about Melo's skill set transferring over like Zbo?

EDIT: I'm not even going to act like you basically calling me a fake "basketball head" didn't make me tight. That was low key disrespect, but alas, this is a forum.

And I'm a Knick fan, so...

I'll let that shyt glide over me...

- I'd be okay with Lionel Hollins personally.

2. Ensure Carmelo Anthony re-signs, selling the impending free agent on his winning formula and 2015 cap-space plan.

- It wouldn't be the end of the world if he left.

- See how the Clippers do in the playoffs. They strike me as a sucker who would make a panic buy on him.

Buy a 1st round pick in the 20's and pray Napier or Tyler Ennis are there.

I know some people might not agree with this but....maybe Melo leaving and us being patient (yet again) is ultimately the route we have to go.

Let Melo walk, DON'T trade Amare, Chandler, Bargnani, let em play out their contracts and re-establish your cap space. After next season I believe the only players on the roster are THJR, Shump and Felton. AND we have our first round pick. So god forbid we're ass again (totally possible) we'll actually have a lottery pick of our own.

Yep, assuming Amare; Chandler, and Bargs play well, move em by the deadline.
Also, I would hit up Detroit on taking on Smith and Jennings for a pick or 2.
In 2016, make a run at Durant and Handsome Hortford :manny:
