So...
We really are acting like Melo is on some Lebron shyt where he relies on his athleticism? No knock to Bron, but there will be a point where he will start slowing down. Melo, on the other hand, although he will slow down also, his skillset is very transferable to a "athletically depreciating all star veteran."
Melo would still be a good investment because unless we really think we can get Bron(Which I really don't want) or KD in the next 2 years, why not pull the trigger on Melo. It's the people we build around him.
This whole explore trading Melo path. I'm not saying it is bad, but w/ the Knicks record, it's liable to be one of those, "Wow, in hindsight, I can't believe we let him go" kind of decisions.
I am standing strong to my view that Melo's game is about I.Q & positioning, much like Zach Randolph. ZBO is a player that doesn't even jump off the floor and his athleticism is non existent, yet he is elite in his strong points.
Oh..and are we goin to act like Melo didn't lead the league in minutes played and still had few injuries even though he basically carried us to EVERY WIN? Who wouldn't have a muscle tear by the end of a year like that? That isn't Melo's body's fault..that's the coach's fault and the lack of a winning backbone by his teammates.
**disclaimer** I know I will get flack about the Lebron comment, but let's be basketball smart here. Lebron is the best player in the League however, in the long term I think a respected point should be that 5 years from now Melo may have the skill set advantage when taking normal depreciating athleticism. I do thnk that between Melo & Lebron in the next 2 year, Bron would be the better asset but the fact that Knicks will not get him & the fact that Melo's skill set isn't really significantly effected by athleticism, he seems like a good investment to me still.
