It ain't the first time a better movie may not do the bidness it deserve, ant wont be the last.
But it don't matter, because studio execs and bank dudes are also fans, and they don't mind losing some money for shyt they love too. Believe it or not, there are still some folks in the bidness for "art" tho we know they always prefer it with paper.

This is gonna have legs breh. If ex machina can do well on the indie circuit and eventually expand wide twice this will have legs with the overwhelming praise. It will prolly be top 5 in the box office for the next month +

Didn't I tell ya'll to stop worrying about the box office? This is a franchise, I've walked out at least twice hearing people say they want to check the originals. They dropped an art book last week and a comic this week and got a video game coming up later this year. This movie is going to make a lot of side money that'll make up for whatever money they'd might lose at the box office (which will be little to none). Because like @FlyRy says above, the movie is gonna have legs (the mere fact that it's been doing above or on par with Pitch Perfect 2 this week is a sure enough sign of that), much like Edge Of Tomorrow managed last year when it crawled to 370 million world wide, and that one was doing substantially less in its first week than this is.

I could buy the optimism, but EX MACHINA is a very different kinda flick a rare example of "pure" "cerebral" sci-fi. Lower stakes financially, higher reward. MM ain't gonna go bust, but after all is said and done it may not be a huge revenue collecta, but it could be nyce. Main question is whether we get more, all I really care about an I think we will long as they want to put in the work.

I aint no gamer but it would be nice if the game has good quality control too, and aint just a cheap cash-in. I'm always skeptical of movie-related games. Not especially interested in the comix, least not yet.

Kingsman is a more apt comparison. Opened at 40 mil and crawled its way to 127 us and 400mil worldwide but i get your point. similar trajectory

I used Edge Of Tomorrow since it's also a WB movie. But again, it ain't just about the box office because WB is aiming to revitalize Mad Max as a franchise.

Was just talking movies wit one nikka who ain't seen it yet and he brought up Michael Bay when asking what it was like, since he imagined it was just a bunch of mindless action. My face's progression while on the phone:

:what::why::birdman:and I quote "fukk hack ass Michael Bay and his bullshyt!"

a little Coli overhype. Yes, but this ain't overhype on the level of Godzilla or Gravity. Because the movie is worthy of the praise when it comes to cinematography, choreography, colors, etc. I was expecting superwomen like the chick from T2 which was ridiculous (that little skinny women punching men :childplease:) but for the most part I could tolerate it in this movie. Yeah, I know I just criticized a sacred cow but how I felt when I was little.

I was surprised at the amount of women who were hurt or killed in here. Since it's a spoiler thread, my mouth was wide open when the pregnant woman was hurt. Didn't expect that at all. There def. was some cheesy parts. Like the 1 armed chick crying in the middle of the desert. Way overdramatic. Everybody survivng the crash, storm, without any major injuring. Especially, the dude that was chained to Max was rididculous. But overall a good not great movie.

And while we're on finest moments, is there a greater shot of juxtaposition in the movie than the shot, after the storm has hit and the first act of pure fukkery has ended, where Max, with a chained Nux and car door on his shoulder and an empty sawed off shotgun makes that turn around the corner of the rig and finds himself looking at five beautiful women, dressed scantly in white, washing their bodies in an abundance of fresh water? It's almost angelic in comparison to the grit of the wasteland, and the fact that Miller starts the shot in a blur and pushes it into focus only sells it more.

Great write up. Agreed with pretty much everything you said. The scene when he came across the ladies really stood out to me too.
