Mad Max: Fury Road is probably the most overrated film of the last decade

doesn't matter if you feel that way now. They got their money :salute:

In general, that's the modern way in entertainment: Hyperbole the shyt out of something average or below average, then run off with the money before people are the wiser. By the time they see the facade, it won't matter and there will be something new to hyperbole :wow:

If Michael Bay made that exact same movie, it'd be a 38 on Rotten tomatoes

was fury road overrated? yeah. but michael bay couldn't make a movie as good as fury road on the best day of his life. the man is an action/explosives god, dont get me wrong. but the style, the flow, the characterization. the visuals GM chose to play up, and the easy-win onscreen gags he avoided. michael bay doesnt have an eye for that kind of subtlety. the most obvious joke/payoff is always the best for him, racial/gender/spiritual complications be damned.

that's how we end up with transformers with gold fronts. transformers with wrecking balls for testicles. robots somehow making urine jokes. and all the other fukk-shyt bay is known for. THAT'S why his version would have a 38 on Rotten Tomatoes.

by the time we got through the first act of bay's version, we would have found out one of the warboys had a tumor on his nuts (because being riddled with death-causing tumors couldnt possibly be horrible enough). and then he would have gotten hit in the nuts during the first chase. and there would have been at least 2 fart jokes in the truck max and furiosa were riding in. :camby:

He already did. Bad Boys movies, The Rock.

This is more inspired than anything in Fury Road

Homie...I love the rock but its not as good as fury road. Michael Bay doesn't have a hold on character to make a movie that good. He builds movies around action scenes rather than letting the action scenes evolve from the story

the characterization in Fury Road is nonexistent. You only think it has character because it has art-house elements, which none of Michael Bay's films do. OP hit the nail on the head.

It's nonexistent? Max has his character which has always been: the loner who just wants to be left alone and is about himself until he finds something greater. Furiosa is the strong leader who finds more strength in being the one person these women have to rely on and then builds her own green place. And each of his "wives" find their own voices, including the one who is clearly ready to sacrifice herself for something larger than herself, very similar to Max. He didn't hit shyt on the head except a bad idea. Michael Bay isn't interested in character moments, like something as simple as Max reluctantly giving the girl a thumbs up, or not giving anyone his name until the end, or even the war boy having his own arc, going from a servant to being a key piece in bringing down a tyrant. That's not Bay's style and that's not what interests him, which is fine but don't compare what he does to what George Miller does because they aren't in the same league.

Even the scenes with Immortan Joe's family details so much about that world and whats valued. When the doctor pulls the baby out of the dead mother's womb, telling Rictus he had a baby brother and he was perfect in every way, only for Rictus to then take that message and yell it to everyone, that paints a picture of a society and what they value. It's subtle shyt that says a lot. Bay isn't subtle at all.
