you fakkits are so racist, and half you clowns are white.

:usure:

Macadelic is a fire ass mixtape

and then dumb statements like this are made

yup, no mac miller fan knows who Finesse is :usure:

since his freestyle over their beats gave him a buzz, he should be sued for 10 million. Get the fukk outta here man, some of you nikkas be sounding beyond ignorant.

I'm not saying no one who likes Mac knows who Finesse is, but his fanbase is mostly white kids under 21. Not hardcore hip hop heads either. Snapback wearing, tumblr addicted hipster pothead kids. I doubt very many of them heard Frozen Pizza the first time and was like "Oh, that's a Lord Finesse beat."

He performs the song live = direct income
he has ads on his youtube video = direct income

I guess the ads part makes sense. I didn't know the specifics of that. But I'm pretty sure performers don't need permission to cover other artists songs live. They do it all the time. The venue might have to pay though.

it is the venue, but ultimately where the money comes from is arbitrary. the point is you're supposed to have permission

its not a cover though.... even if it was a fee would have to be payed which obviosuly wasnt... frank ocean just got threatened to get sued for the same thing

Frank Ocean Threatened With Lawsuit by Rockers the Eagles | News | BET

Right its less than a cover. Its him rapping over another artist's instrumental at a concert. This shouldn't be an issue because performers don't need permission to perform other artists songs live. He's not responsible, the venue is.

Because I'm not some washed up rapper trying to get a check while ruining mixtapes for everybody.

see there's multiple angles to all of this. I have various opinions about how I feel about people making a career from recorded music in general. but I don't think my opinions on that are really relevant to the discussion here. this is about the current laws and what they say about this situation. it's about the world we live in, not the one we'd prefer to live in. it's about separating your emotions and personal needs from the issue. it's like saying I don't wanna stop eating babies because they're so yummy (extreme example, I know). at some point you have to put your personal needs (I want mixtapes) aside for the 'greater good'

like I said before, I think the fact that you are essentially giving someone else's music away is a valid point

Lord Finesse could wash Mac Miller right now on the mic easily. Then go make a beat that slays any track the hobbit has rapped on.

If he performed the song live, he's in trouble. That may be the deciding factor in the Lord Finesse lawsuit, and also the one against Frank Ocean by The Eagles.

I just checked on this Warm Speakers guy. I'm starting to think this is more of a way to make a quick buck.

So coli is dumb-downed SOHH now huh? We used to have lengthy analytical discussions on topics like this. Now we have short paragraphs from posters that definitely didn't read the article. I feel ashamed.

Both lawsuits clearly doesn't only cover the recording of the song. It has to do with all the publicity, advertisement, concert revenue, usage of recording in commercials, etc that Miller has benefited from. This will not change the mixtape scene since it doesn't involve the actual recording of the song. Will songs stop being posted on youtube? Maybe. Will sites like datpiff stop their membership section? Probably. Will we stop getting original beats on mixtapes? NO. Will artists stop making mixtapes? Definitely not.

Also, if Miller put the producers name in the description that will make them entitled to receive a portion of the royalty and all other financial gains from the song. That is why Miller didn't put their name in there.

Stop overhyping bullshyt and start reading, this is getting ridiculous.
