So coli is dumb-downed SOHH now huh? We used to have lengthy analytical discussions on topics like this. Now we have short paragraphs from posters that definitely didn't read the article. I feel ashamed.

Both lawsuits clearly doesn't only cover the recording of the song. It has to do with all the publicity, advertisement, concert revenue, usage of recording in commercials, etc that Miller has benefited from. This will not change the mixtape scene since it doesn't involve the actual recording of the song. Will songs stop being posted on youtube? Maybe. Will sites like datpiff stop their membership section? Probably. Will we stop getting original beats on mixtapes? NO. Will artists stop making mixtapes? Definitely not.

Also, if Miller put the producers name in the description that will make them entitled to receive a portion of the royalty and all other financial gains from the song. That is why Miller didn't put their name in there.

Stop overhyping bullshyt and start reading, this is getting ridiculous.

They have to prove that Mac Miller is profiting from that actual song in question.
You wrote a whole post before hearing the defense, knowing if it was going to court etc. Let's see how it goes through or if Mac Miller basically will be forced to settle.

of he's touring/making money off shows, and performing the track at shows- that in itself is case.. same thing happened with Frank Ocean, and the Eagles..

Can they prove it in court though?
What happened with the frank ocean thing? Is it going to court?

im not a miller fan, but these dudes are stupid for suin dude. some of the best songs ive heard are from mixtapes and they shyt on the original beat/songs

to all of yall supportin the lawsuits cuz yiou dont like miller gotta realize that this could hurt the mixtape game for good smh

You do know that originally labels, MC's, and producers would give DJ's tracks for mixtapes right?

If only you knew the shyt that would go down if you had a track you weren't supposed to.

Sidenote:

Some of this bs can be traced right back to cats like Big Mike with his "exclusives".

Of course also 50 Cent must shoulder some of the blame with his take on the mixtape genre, legendary or not.

People sue & aim for the stars, lawsuits against celebs almost always end in small settlements. Eminems mom slapped him with a 10 million lawsuit and got like 5000. The biggest L here will be Mac Miller lawyers fee's & the ramifications on the mixtape game.

its not cuz hes white, its cuz hes wack so kill the racist shyt.

I'm not gon lie to me its about race:russ:...but only partially...I would be on board with a lawsuit against anybody that's wack, but if it wuz a black artist I would get the feeling of "you can't sue another black man trying to get money:damn:"....in this case that voice doesn't come in my head at all.:manny:

just because you get away with something for "years" doesn't mean it's gonna last forever

My Pops Forever RIP
At the end of the day my thing is..if u cant afford to pay for a sample, another producer's beat, voice etc...make your own original shyt

the downside to that is... if i have to go through this process just to ultimately put something out for FREE... fukk it, I might as well not put out anything that isn't for retail.

Because I'm not some washed up rapper trying to get a check while ruining mixtapes for everybody.
Not even a week later, the Currensy/Wiz mixtape gets held back.

Well, at least Finesse put that culture vulture Mac in his place right?

:beli:

From the Finesse/Mac thread

And are people really cool with LF winning this case, setting a precedent that will prevent people from using others' instrumentals on tapes, random non-album songs and radio stations just to see Mac get an L?

*Remembers people talking about how this could mess up music and people going "No it won't. Just credit them and everything will be good."

:beli:

This is just the start.
