A lot of dudes stuck on the lyrics either can't be straight up when lyrical rappers of equal caliber are brought up ( K-Rino, KA, Elzhi, Skyzoo etc.)
OR
They're way to focused on the smaller aspects of a song or in Kendrick case an entire album to be honest.
In this case it's the supposed lyrics, if we're honest, I feel any song on this album, can go toe to toe with anything on Lupe's
And this is because Kendrick treats his album not as just a collection of songs but an overall message and point he wants to convey.
This is what elevates the "album" beyond a disjointed experience and turns it into something more film like.
Another thing is a lot of dudes on here go on about "Lyrics" but don't understand that being "lyrical" isn't just being as
technical as possible it's about having a certain level of eloquence and delivery that helps the Rapper/Emcee ascend beyond
the limits of words. Eminem and Pac IMO do that well, they express emotion, they emote in a way that words alone can't.
This isn't to say that Lupe cannot or has not done it, I'm just saying I feel it's an important aspect of Rapping/Emceeing that
is almost never included "Lyric" discussion.
A lot of y'all would rather Kendrick deliver his lyrics in a predictable and monotonous way which removes
a lot of the implied context and I feel that if you take that away from him you're removing one of the key aspects of his style.
And in doing so a lot of these songs simply wouldn't work
