Is it me or does anybody else see the similarities between Prisoner 1 & 2 and These Walls as far as the concepts?
:jbhmm:
I didn't get that off of those 2 songs tbh.

Prisoner 1 & 2 on the surface is about an inmate/CO being one of the same... prisoners due to some conviction, and prisoners due to your situation and your job. Lupe then has hidden themes going on in the song about artists being being prisoners to "numbers and release dates" etc, and then on Prisoners 2 he goes off about rappers promoting a damaging image deserving to be locked up just like criminals are. "You should be in here too!... you JUST LIKE US, you help shyt get through"... that's a double entendre for the gangster rapper/correctional officer.

These Walls from Kendrick was him correlating sex/prison/trapped in an environment all into one, with each verse. The 1st verse's walls were about p*ssy... the 2nd verse was still on that point, but started getting into the theme of the album, with the coc00n/butterfly being trapped, and then the last verse, the walls were prison walls.

:manny:

But let me know how you see them being similar

I felt like Lu was talking bout the music execs and heads of these corporations pushing the negative content rappers rap about. They also jail the rappers in and water down the content that gets put out, and enslave them in terrible contracts and what not.

The guy that killed Kendrick's boy being in prison, and Kendrick being free in the streets to abuse his power to hurt him is where I drew similarities between them.

Both Kendrick and the CO's are abusing their power over others, but mentally they're still trapped themselves.

Tetsuo still gets play... TPAB :yeshrug: it's good but other than Section 80 I rarely find myself going back and listening to K. Dot albums/mixtapes only a few songs here and there
