I think Lupe may have dropped the first album that I consider a classic in years...my wife is even amazed at this shyt...

How many relationships is Lupe talking about in No Scratches brehs?
The hook alone is so dope, and it can be broken down so many ways with the themes of this album... He's already said that some songs have like 4-5 running themes all going on at once. I think this is one of those for sure. Outside of the references to The Cool along with The Game and The Streets on this song/album, I also think this song is him talking about his relationship with his fans/music industry and how it's been throughout the years with both (his fans and mainstream music).
Song starts off with this little intro...

I could be reaching but this comes off as a small dialog of Lupe talking about his fans. Like, yeah it's all love, and we as artists do music because of the love for the craft and our fans... but real talk, you (the fans) don't know what kind of shyt I'm going through.
Then the verse starts and he goes...
See first I had patience
And a nikka had energy
But now I'm weak, definitely
I'll interject here. The way he said "energy" takes me back to Lasers and that single 'I'm Beamin'.
"I get my energy... from my inner G"
Going back to No Scratches, and how it relates to that song/line is like him speaking from a fan's perspective and his perspective. He had patience with the delay from him releasing The Cool to when Lasers dropped. So did his fans, all the push backs, the beef with the label, and all that. Then he finally drops Lasers and we're like
is this shyt? That's where that line, "And a nikka had engery... but now I'm weak, definitely" Is kinda of like him remembering how his perception went when he released that album/song. And he lost a lot of fans with that release.
But off in the future, and what it’s finna be
All your memories can become enemies
People remembering F&L and The Cool along with his mixtapes have been a big reason to why people have been so hard on him over the years. We all know what he's capable of, so it's easy to become disappointed with anything he puts out that isn't on that level that we remember so fondly.
Then the hook... the narrative seems to possibly represent his fans thoughts with how his career's went.

And then that waitin’ turned to wasting my time, my time, my time
And then that wasting turned to hating
And then that hating got to racing
All around my mind, my mind, my mind
The next hook changes 'my' to 'your'. It's like him acknowledging that people have moved on and he understands why. Whether it be some of those old fans, or his situation with Atlantic. Just walk away no scratches...

Dope post, it's like anybody who sits down with this album can come up with their take on it's brilliance and it always makes sense when it's properly explained.
Yeah, that is the mark of great art. It can be interpreted in many ways, possibly even differing from the artist's actual intentions, but could still be applicable and understandable nonetheless.
