That's weak as fukk. He has millions of followers on twitter, and a few 100K follwing him on IG and this album can only do 35K first week? That's beyond fukked up man.
Some nikkaz just hate loc. I was puttin this nikka I work with on. College educated, you gotta at least have your bachelors for my company, and he was already a hater. Then I made him listen to Chopper cuz they ratchet shyt is up his alley. First thing he said was it was political... I was like :comeon: then he said he liked Buk... old Buk (kid is too young to know shyt about old Buk), then he was like "It's good but..." then I just told the nikka to go eat his sandwich at his desk.

nikkaz got degrees, but they aint go to Harvard brehs :snoop:

Atlantic dropped the ball: no promo, and undershipped him. Factor in Lupe not dropping a critically acclaimed album in years lead to the hype train being very low.

Plus his social media shenanigans & outspokenness on certain topics ain't help.

Pretty much. Lupe's time of being the #1 sought after concious "rap savior" ended in 2011. Kendrick and Cole have that seat now.

But it's like what this article said...

"If Good Kid M.A.A.D. City’s brilliance was in Kendrick Lamar making friends with every faction at every corner of the school cafeteria without compromising himself, then Tetsuo and Youth does almost the opposite: its Lupe eating in that same cafeteria, all alone, contently wearing a Bruce Leroy glow, with the self esteem of a star quarterback surrounded by an entourage."

Sums it all up to me. Lupe created his first album since 2007 that pushed his artistic vision to a new realm. His genius mind is on an island by itself. Said himself that he would only push 30k a month ago. He won't get the recognition, or praise as others get but I think that he's okay with that. Even if he was/is more innovative & talented than the nikkas being lauded now.

Just my opinion/observation.

Ras Kass tried to tell us twice

"See this without an optometrist
I'm stuck in the middle of this bytch like ya momma's gynacologist
Make a radio hit - headz criticize it;
Underground classic - nobody buys it:
So, rap is fukked and everything blowing up sounds redundant
But money talks and bullshyt does 9 flat in the hundred"

"But the label owners make all the real money
Just ask David Geffrey, Barry Gordy, Russel, or Puffy
Business? You don't get what you deserve, you get what you negotiate
And everything is renegotiable based on the sales you generate
But hip-hop fans don't buy albums, and then again, tend to player hate
The rapper that went Pop, but before this, I never knew
Skills don't pay the mother fukking bills, money do
Is you stupid? How nice I represent don't pay rent
The R&B ho who jock Theo on the radio buy your CD doe"

fukk this genre:mjcry:

Y'all read this rap genius break down on Little Death?

"According to Lu, this track ‘has so many pieces running at the same’.

The three verses represent three different religious paradigms and they clash with politics. The first verse deals with sex, the second with treatment of animals; specifically how they are to be slaughtered, and the third speaks on the justice system.

Each hook is told from the perspective of the devil. Varying by the verse it follows, the devil is trying to persuade a person to “raise hell” by acting immoral."

Man...it's never taken me so long to break songs down on a lupe album. The more you uncover the more beautiful each song becomes. I am in love with this album.

I totally agree breh. He did do it to himself. But i think people would come across this album down the line and examine it. As long as he's happy its cool. I just cant help it though lol. Listening to K.R.I.T. RTJ Gibbs Barrel brothers The Roots etc All this great music that just gets overlooked. N1ggas only want Drake, Kanye, Wayne, Jay, Kendrick & Cole. Maybe Nas not sure. And all these fans do is revisit the golden era and never move forward. Like the 2000's 2010's etc dont have any classics or somethin. I guess that's another argument. Sorry for the rant bre lol.

That may very well be the case. But I know for sure Lupe's fanbase ain't dwindled down to 35k first week status. There simply was no hype around the album at all. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of casual fans even know he has a CD out.

It was pushed back & held for damn near 2 years with singles beings released 6 months apart (Old School Love -> Mission) and no release date for the longest. This was suppose to drop in 2013 in all honesty.

Lupe had a lot of hype surrounding him after those SLR/Control responses + a big sounding single featuring Chris Brown. If Lu woulda dropped the OG version of T&Y in Q4 2013 - Q1 2014 his numbers woulda been way higher than this.

Huge fan of T&Y!

Lupe is ahead of his time, he is the sort of person who's work will properly be recognized by the mainstream after he is gone. Hopefully when he drops Black Vietnam in summer, he will get more recognition that he deserves.

It's cool he left hip hop on a high note. I'm ready to eat off that Japanese Cartoon! It may be Cac music but the lyricism on In The Jaws of the Lords of Death are dope. Gasp is :wow:

He should fade to the shadows and just continue to release independent joints for the real fans

That version of the album wants anywhere near as good as this though. Sorry I'd rather the album not sell good and get a masterpiece than for it to go platinum and be Lasers 2 with hard beats sprinkled in.

Lu will be able aight. Artists don't make money off albums like that anyway. Support him on tour and with merch.

He's not retiring but this would've been the ultimate farewell album. Talk about leaving on a high note lol.
