Would be dope if he really does drop info related to each song leading up to the physical release date.
I think this one will pull back in some fans he lost at Tetsuo & Youth, which as cohesive as it turned out to be, most of that wasn’t actually intended for the album and just chose the 12 best songs he had completed on the side. If you’ve paid attention to his twitter freestyles over the past year or so, the quadruple entendre raps seem like the kind of stuff he likes to do in his spare time and what I imagine Skulls will sound more like, since he’s said that one is for himself. This, however, is for the fans and generally more accessible than ANKH:HER. There’s still a few songs that need some unpacking, but for the most part, Wave returns to his knack for storytelling and flow versatility. And as much as he prioritizes lyricism, this is his most melodic project yet.
Fair, but his initial style was rooted in more straightforward storytelling, so it's not like he's doing something he doesn't want to do. I can tell finding those manillas meant a lot to him, so it's understandable why he would want his message to be as clear as Jonylah Forever, for instance. Like I doubt anyone is gonna accuse this of being impenetrable puzzle rap the way Adoration of the Magi might be. And by melodic, while there are trap flows on this, I really mean how he's continued to start his latest freestyles with "What they say..." and the "ghettoooo" in the King Nas snippet has a similar vibe. He's just more involved in the hooks now and you could see it on T&Y too, but it's more apparent in the abundance of a double-disc.But Lupe core fans love him for his entendres and lyrcisim. It wouldnt make sense for him to do some melodic rap music when Lupe said himself he can finally make music he wants and likes to do. Tetsuo was one big story and you just said yourself lupe loves entendres.
Probably more accessible as in pulling back from the abstract stuff and coming in with a more centralized concept like he has with Wave. Though I anticipate Wave will have its fair share of abstract songs. But Lupe core fans love him for his entendres and lyrcisim. It wouldnt make sense for him to do some melodic rap music when Lupe said himself he can finally make music he wants and likes to do. Leaking soon...
