I like this album but damn I want to hear more about Lu himself and less wordplay or triple entendres. Breh you are 40 now, what’s going on in your life?!
Growth and he always gives a little bit just how he’s been open on his Islamic faith and certain views with a few lines.Lupe has NEVER throughout the entirety of his career been a “personal” MC like that where he shares a lot about his own life. He actually does that more in interviews than he does his music so I don’t know why you’d expect that at this point in his career

Did you watch Lupe’s Hot 97 interview? He did not hold back
Ah, that's different. It was basically another IG Live, which is where you would see more of his personality, but the music has always been mostly conceptual or telling other people's stories. To be clear, DMIZ is his most personal album to me. Wrestling with his complicated feelings on religion as 40-year old Lupe confronts the idealism of his younger self in a spiritual way, but he just doesn't lay it out so directly. Seattle even says: "Bottling up what I go through" and he's just recently been opening up about exactly how bad the Atlantic situation was from Day 1.
Yeah, it was always fukk Atlantic. Specifically, I'm talking about them telling radio stations to stop playing Kick, Push, flying out to the Philippines to buy the rights back after the sample was already cleared, Chill having to push that song himself, no publishing on Daydreaming, Craig trying to butcher Superstar at the last minute, forging Lupe's signature, etc. I think alot of this wasn't revealed until a year or so ago and that's why it still seems like news whenever he brings it up again on twitter. For a while, the theory was that there was friction on The Cool heard in the Dumb it Down hook and they really started intervening on Lasers, but the truth is Atlantic always hated Lupe.If you read or watch interviews from 2008-2011ish he’s always spoken pretty candidly about the fukk shyt with Atlantic. He’s been calling Lyor Cohen out for 15 years

Yup, Lupe and Chill thought it was better to let Jay get his masters and someone else (Mark Pitts?) was supposed to replace him before Craig, but he ended up going somewhere else too.Wasn’t Jay supposed to end up there which is why Lu signed in good faith but Hov became president of Def jam instead? If so that explains why things were shaky from the start and him not signing the 360 pretty much put the nail in the coffin

Lupe had already 2 record deals and had been rapping for around 5 years professionally before Atlantic, so he already went through all the typical ups and downs new artists experience. By the time he got to Atlantic, he was already a complete artist and the version of F&L that leaked was already finished. That’s why Daydreamin was added, so there was something Atlantic could profit off of. Lupe knew how to be successful without them, but it wasn’t Atlantic’s music and that’s the dealbreaker.Does anyone know why Atlantic hated Lupe so much? You'd think a label would put a ton of support behind an artist that had as much buzz and potential as Lupe did.
I think Lupe has tainted his image a few times with lines or weary on the surface headlines too.Tetsuo & Youth is still goated to me, but this project just feels too whiny for me to enjoy. Yes Mr. Inception is always fun to hear when you want to dissect a lyric over and over, but ultimately, it fell flat to me. It felt like a grown man who still thinks he's 15 fighting against the system that honestly still gives him a chance. I don't want to hear complaints about not getting more shine, indie or not. The people have spoken, if they like you they like you, if they don't, move on..Lupe hasn't moved on and its eye roll inducing.
