:DVince:As punishment for your desertion, it's company policy to give you the plague.
Dunn: Uh, sir, that's the plaque.

This shyt is gonna eventually backfire on them. Having a disgruntled employee that you won't let leave, but won't do anything with is a recipe for disaster. Vince is gonna mess with the wrong guy and get everybody fukked up.
That shyt is CRAZY, How can they legally force an "independent contractor" from quitting. There is NO OTHER profession in the world where an "independent contractor" can't quit their job :mindblown:

They signed a contract. Only way this changes is if someone lawyered up and went after the WWE.

Everything's fair when you sign the contract but damn if this isn't crazy.

I don't know what kind of lawyers they have but I don't see how WWE gets to have the best of both worlds with these shytty contracts.

If WWE can release somebody at any time (as an at will employer), it would be fair that talent would be able to quit at any time. Given the unique industry they're in, a no compete is reasonable but a guy should be able to find future employment after a fixed time (30/60/90 days) that starts immediately after the relationship is terminated by either side.

Brock already gave them the template when he got the "territory" provisions of his contract laughed out of court so he could work for NJPW. The only reason Vince is able to do this is because no one's taken him to court over it.

It's unreasonably restrictive and, essentially, makes for a contract with an indefinite and indeterminate end time. No one would uphold that, certainly not for an independent contractor. A good lawyer would get that stricken down easily.

Didn't Lesnar show up in NJPW first before the WWE filed that lawsuit? His situation is a little different since he quit the company to try his hand at pro football.

Yeah, and there was a non-compete attached to all that basically saying he couldn't wrestle within WWE's territory, which to them meant the world. WWE had to settle lest they lose more than their hold on Brock Lesnar at the time.

It's different, but people would do well to study how that case progressed when dealing with issues like Harper's.

I was gonna put this in the Sasha thread since freezing contracts came out but they added 6 months and again show their true colors
Last week, Luke Harper announced on social media that he has asked for his release from WWE, adding that it feels like the right decision for himself and the company. The latest Wrestling Observer Newsletterreports that not only has WWE not released Harper from his contract, but they’ve added six months to it. The contract was frozen due to his time off and the belief is that now he can’t leave until just before next year’s Wrestlemania. It was originally set to expire in November.

There is speculation that this could be WWE’s way of keeping people from going public and saying they’re not happy, which would go along with reports that WWE doesn’t want to be seen as the bad guy. Compare that to Dustin Rhodes, whose contract was not frozen after his double knee surgery and was allowed to go to AEW, as he outright denied he was leaving when rumors surfaced.

Rey was ready to take them to court and even went for it so Vince decided to let him go.
