It is about who the better player is when that guy just led you to the Finals while putting up 28/8/8. I’m not even trying to slight AD because I’m a fan of his too, but you don’t do this deal because of the age difference when the guy you traded away would’ve had you competing for championships in the next 10 years. AD will still be AD sure, buts it’s a shortsighted move, you won’t have this AD in 10 years. You keep the all-NBA playmaking guard who can also score with the best of them 10 out of 10 times.

Nah I'm a fan of Kyrie's game, he's gonna be able to fit anywhere. But Luka is a do it all facilitator type of player who impacts the game on multiple levels. He has the numbers and the impact.

The whole reason the supermax exists is because NBA owners thought if it existed OKC would've been able to keep Kevin Durant from going to the Warriors.

Also officially the only team to win a title with a player under a supermax contract are the 2022 Warriors with Steph. However technically, the 2021 Bucks (Giannis), 2023 Nuggets (Jokic) and 2024 Celtics (Brown) had players who had signed them, the extension just hadn't kicked in yet

Which never made sense anyways considering it was a perfect storm of different circumstances (Steph's injuries, the one-off cap spike, his issues with Russ) that allowed it to happen in the first place.

I just don't have nor see the issue with someone of Luka's caliber and accolades qualifying for it.

If teams are that worried about supermax contracts, then put even more barriers in place to prevent players from qualifying for it.

Actually it's from the Lakers side too now that I think about it. Max shoulda been the last guy you gave up if you getting Luka. Luka is redundant to some degree with both Austin and Knect. Max is the perfect backcourt mate for Luka for the next decade.
