That whole Super Bowl or bust shyt is only for QBs

Can't act like it's mutually exclusive though. Hall of fame players generally play for good teams, that's why they're good.

There are exceptions especially at RB, but I don't you can aim for one or the other, just mindless slow newsday talk by ESPN

Manu

D rob

TP

:comeon:

- rep!

Manu was not a very good player until the 2004-2005 season, TP was still inexperienced. I'll give you D Rob since he was still pretty good for his age, but that Spurs team was basically a Tim Duncan carry job.

Nice to see most of The-Coli using their senses for once.

Definitely have to go for the HOF career vs just winning a SB ring.

I don't think he "didn't" want to win one, so your point is useless considering LT is looking BACK at his career ending without one.
since the op doesnt have a link I obviously dont have the initial article so Im just referring to stuff posted in this thread.

as such, it makes no big difference tbh. a true competitor hates to lose and will give up individual success to win. although of course, the question as yall pose it is too extreme. it doesnt have to be an absolute bum who won a ring/hof player who never won it.

the better question is that if youre a good player like, say, frank gore, wholl never sniff the HoF...would he rather be in HoF and much better numbers or get a ring with his present career?

I know the answer this fine product of the U will give :myman:

it all depends on what you determine is your end goal. being a dominant player in the league who'll "be remembered" is great and dandy...but Im sure lots of these players would give up plenty of dominant years just to get that elusive ring.

It IS a big difference

LT hated to lose. LT wanted a ring WHILE HE PLAYED.

What you're doing is acting as if he didn't want those things while playing but not taking his assessment of his POST NFL CAREER and reflecting on not having a ring to being in the HOF.

Nothing but jackasses at ESPN for perpetuating this "you ain't shyt if you don't win!" culture in sports. Championship rings are a TEAM achievement that you don't control as much as you control you own performance. Your goal as a player is to be the best player you can be, compete at the highest level possible, doing that gives your team the best chances to win, and even after that you still have to hope the pieces fall in the right place and your teammates pull their weight.

I'd rather be that guy who dominated and averaged 2000 yards from scrimmage a season than be the guy who got 1400 yards from scrimmage and end up with a title I feel like I didn't earn. I'd rather get PAID MORE for being a superstar rather than the wage of a middle of the road/good player. I'd rather have the accolades of a Hall of Fame career, rather than a Super Bowl win that has my performance as irrelevant or my production as easily replaced.

Even Mark Schlereth sees it. Dude is not stupid. He answered me on twitter.

@_bigchee: Hey cuz you have 3 rings, makes you more remembered than the ringless Willie Roaf who will be in the HOF?

@markschlereth wrong TV does that!

@markschlerethWillie was a much better player than me. That's a fact he deserves the HOF I don't.

what about a good career and a ring vs a hof career

the question was would he rather have a Super Bowl ring but not get into the Hall of Fame, or be a Hall of Famer without a Super Bowl ring.

what career would you rather have?

barry sanders or kevin faulk?

randy moss or desmond howard?

darrelle revis or jabari greer?

Are you SERIOUSLY going to think about Chalmers ring 30 years from now over Iverson's ability being better than his?

What irks me the most about it, was how close LT was to getting one had Marlon McCree not fumbled that int.

SD has killed the Colts traditionally (I know who's to say they don't win that AFCCG aginst them), then gone up against the Bears in the Super Bowl. Could've would've should've, but that Chargers team in 2006 was very beastly.

Not LT's fault at all he didn't get a ring that season.

yes thats the question but you are deliberately picking out ridiculous comparisons.
whats next , lets compare a ring-winning kicker to dan marino ?

Im saying make it harder. take a good player with good/very good but not HoF career and no rings and ask him whether hed like a HoF status or a ring

I dont think the results would be all in favor of hof status like they are here
