are pete rock and cl smooth going to sue lupe who also has a video to a classic song or did he pay his dues to them?
is lord finesse going to pay whoever he sampled to make that beat ??
I dont think Mac Milli paid the compulsory fee for a cover song.I aint never been to a Mac Miller concert but Im pretty sure he is/was performing this at his concerts as well. The song has 23 million views on youtube. On top of that youtube pays out about 1000 per 1million views on their site so at the very least LF may gripe about getting a cut of that, if indeed mac is getting paid from that

Since when were mixtapes NOT used to promote an artist? What else would they be for?
they would be what they claim to be: a mixed cassette tape. dj's would make them and give them out or sell them. but it was about the dj's skills and choice of music. over time that changed to a focus on 'exclusive' tracks. to the point we're at now where it's just a collection of exclusive tracks by one artist, and there's little to no dj involved

Thats what happened to Frank Ocean.
thats how it works out for other genres. Prince been suing people for years for performing his work without paying him.Im confused, so are you saying because Mac Miller didnt pay the fee he should be able to perform it?

hip hop usually ignores that because a lot of the genre is based on it, but there is a caase.
I dont support Lord Finesse here tho
