Jason Kidd written all over him except he can't do several of the things that made Kidd so great (playing elite defense, breaking down a defense and creating offense for others). :dahell:

Lonzo is D'Angelo level defensively for sure. He's a better athlete but that's about it, his on ball D is atrocious. The only thing he can do half-decently well is play the passing lanes from time to time, but so does Russell. Ball trying to defend the PnR is embarrassingly bad.

"Intangibles" are an easy way to brush aside all the important stuff he can't do.. sounds like when a cac football player who can't run fast or jump high gets drafted... "well he's got a high motor and intangibles" :martin:
The metrics paint a favorable view of Lonzo Ball's defense. I like his anticipation in the lanes, quick strong hands, and his length (6'6 with 6'9 wingspan), he can be an elite defender like Kidd if he puts the work in. He has the potential to be a great help/weakside defender and a real playmaker on defense.

Led UCLA in defensive win shares (2.0 dWs)
2.1 steals, 1 block per 40 minutes
3.5 defensive box plus minus
3rd on team in defensive rating (100.7 dRtg)
2.1 personal fouls per 40 minutes

I don't know how you're saying he can't break down defenses, finish at the rim (73% on 2PT which were mostly in the paint), or create from others he was one of the best passers in the nation.

Ball has potential to be a Jason Kidd and Penny Hardaway hybrid, Backcourt 2000 in one man...

:ehh:

First of all, defensive win shares is a terrible stat for judging basketball. Second, UCLA had one of the worst defenses in the entire NATION this year, so you're telling me he led UCLA in defensive win shares and stuff as if anyone should be impressed that he was a slightly better defender than bums like Bryce Alford. The whole backcourt was trash defensively, Lonzo included.

To your last point, even if you assume every single one of his 2 pt shots was at the rim (they weren't) that's only 2.9 shots per game... in reality he gets about 1.7 shots per game at the rim & more than half of those are assisted.

His best, and really only offensive weapon at this point, is a step back 3 pointer.

Every time i see lonzo during an interview I want the lakers to draft him. Then i get scared that its just the media working to brainwash me:russ:.

You know lavar forcing him to wear that big baller brand to all those interviews.

Lavar: *sees lonzo walking out to go to an espn interview in some nike gear*:stopitslime: Boy if you dont get your ass back over here. where the hell do you think you going dressed like that:why:. We got a closet full of BBB gear and matching snapbacks. Better act like you been here:birdman:

Lonzo: But dad ive been wearing BBB gear for like 2 years straight:mjcry:. Please just to--

Lavar: BOY ARE YOU TALKING BACK TO ME!?!:damn:. YOU THINK YOU GROWN NOW?! Better take that shyt off. Matter fact who got you that shirt:dahell:? Thought I donated all our non BBB clothing last summer. Now go change. And make sure that logo is always in the camera when your on set:steviej:

Lonzo: Yes dad:to:

BTW Ball is a great defender and his lack of shots at the rim is by design. Also think the "he can't go right" stuff is overblown.

Ball and Fultz are both great. They are both offensive anchors in my mind but need different types of players surrounding them to excel in that role.

Can't make it in the league without having the mentality that you're the best, you'd all just call him soft if he said otherwise anyway. But lowkey I think Ben Simmons is gonna pull a Blake Griffin and show up all these guys and nab ROY from this overhyped draft class if he's healthy next season. :yeshrug:

None of these new draftees are seeing Simmons.

:mjlol: Still stanning for LaVine, huh?

Lavine is better than ball that is for sure.

I hate to even bring up the low side of a future draft pick.
Yet I see Tobey bailey all day for this entire family.

I agree with a lot of what was stated but we must be clear, Fultz is doubled a lot, his projection is also due to his elite athleticism and skill level. Fultz will translate better than the numbers.

That said, Ball is the real deal. As complete as a PG I seen at the college level as a true freshman.

This Kid is nowhere near marbury, rose, Westbrook, Kidd or nick Anderson as pg as freshie.
He has shown nuffin to even be number one like how rose took it in the tournie. Nor is he as good as lavine and Westbrook were either.
Only way he becomes anything is from a team coddling him and I do not see him being coveted in that manner to get that type of treatment.

Tobey bailey one two and three needs to happen asap as far as I am concerned.

Oh you really lost your mind.
You could never have seen penny or Kidd play in college in real time.
This Kidd, ball has shown nuffin of the sort and is just all pr fluff.

I hate to give draftees a bottom but this whole family is Tobey bailey one two and three.

Where are you guys seeing this in the eye test when this kid plays of Calibur and of size talent.
Monk just sonned this nikka and monk has another gear and I think monk is at best Ben McLemore.
So how in the fukk, is this ball kid propped beside favorable pr.
