so are you saying black people werent riding with janet until thats the way love goes? not with control? or rhythm nation? as fukking penny? are you serious?
This thread is about Lizzo and she's black too. Lizzo and Janet are labeled cross over artists which is not exclusively black. I hear black people say the same thing about Chris Rock and Chappelle

except you said that janet and denzel for some reason had a white label at all. the woman who did rhythm nation had a white label? the man who portrayed malcolm x had a white label? having crossover appeal is one thing, but saying they had a white label when they got major support from black people is absolutely insane

Depends what meaning someone gives to crossover. For some it means white + black, for some it means sellout and it can go back n forth. MC Hammer had a black 1st album and then on you cant touch this he's a crossover and sellout but black people still bought Please Hammer at first. I believe if Coli was around in the 80s Prince, MJ, Janet, Whitney would be called music for cacs while rap and soul would be in the black clubs

I don't think she makes "white" music from the popular stuff I've heard from her but she definitely makes glossy music that lacks earthiness/bluesyness. Whitney Houston and Luther Vandross in the 1980s had these same qualities/perceptions of their music.
