Everyone should listen to Darius talk about the music he makes and his experiences in the industry and touring America.

He's more "real" than most people who dont get their racial identity questioned.

He did a podcast on Questlove show and it was really insightful. I would have used his name like you did before and I don't listen to his music but I have a respect for him.

I agree. We really need some of these brehs to go back and look who started all these genres. Darius in a genre that we started. :manny: I'm not so close-minded all I listen to is rap and R&b. That shyt is lame.

Some artists get the white label until they make something that connects with a large black audience

Janet Jackson - Thats the way love goes
Denzel - Training day
Peele- Get Out

Lizzo is like if Outkast started their career with Hey Ya. She's talented with fun songs but if she wants that black crowd she has to immerse herself in that world for a while and target that sound.
When did Janet Jackson or Denzel ever have white labels? :pachaha:

That's the Way Love Goes came out in 93. You saying black folks wasn't rocking with Janet Jackson when Control was out in 86? She was winning Soul Train awards.

Denzel was in Mo Betta Blues way before Training Day.

You must not have been alive during those times. They were big with black audiences well before whites.

Lizzo is also winning all kinds of BET, Soul Train hip hop awards and she has tracks with Missy and Gucci Mane yet people are still calling her music for white people, here in this thread too.

Denzel might not be a good example, I just remember when Training day came out my friends was like wow at a role they wasnt used to from him and it was huge with us.

Janet was well-known with black audiences from way back because a) she was on Good Times and b) she was a damn Jackson.

But even just from a musical standpoint, she was working with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis by the mid-'80s, so even musically, she was hot with black audiences at the time. I was really, really young, and still I can remember every black person I knew in my family or otherwise listened to her heavily.

I have never heard anyone claim that Janet Jackson was not primarily listened to by black folks at any point until this thread.

This is the same forum that complained that Pharrell made Happy for white people and Move that Dope for Black people.

Talented girl, but I just wanna hear her on a track where she straight sangin to a nikka soul
This.

I will never deny her talent. It is even evident in her pop songs.

I wanna lock her in a room with Jill Scott, Kindred, Eric Roberson, Paul Glasper, and tell them to create some great music:banderas:
