Nah

Bad writing ruined this adaptation.

You can have strong, assertive female characters no problem without making them paper thin caricatures. They just went for the LOWEST hanging fruit
You're describing regular feminism which is fine, the anime had plenty of that.

What they did in this show in regards to Julia, Vicious, Faye, etc. That was toxic

I agree but i’m saying its BAD writing.

The overall arc between Julia, Spike, and Vicious COULD have worked. But they didn’t give Julia ANY agency whatsoever. No real intelligence. No charisma. No cunning. It was totally unbelievable that she would even have the guts to betray Vicious, let alone mastermind taking over the syndicate.

Thats not toxic feminism thats just terrible writing and AWFUL character development. Whoever signed off on that needs to never work in cinema again

The original anime had some problems with the female characters just because it was aping a lot of noir theme like the femme fatale trope.

Julia was just a dream girl Spike projected onto.

This adaptation didn’t expand it. It just added other female noir tropes then pasted on a modern day “ girl power” setup they really wanted.

I’ll agree the writing is shyt but the Julia twist is one of the better things they did.

They set it up early she is capable to come up with plans (recruit the capos, betray vicious), and realize Spike is alive. She has agency in this version whereas in Julia in the anime was just a plot device. They had a good idea with this they just suck with execution.

Also keep in mind this is a woman who has been with MOSHI MOSHI VICIOUS DESU and the syndicate for years, it is logical her outlook on life would change. Especially after the loyalty test.

Just finished it. 4.5/10. The ending was worse than expected. Not trying to see a second season of this

im ok with the twist, show overall was a 6.5 outta 10, but i wanna see where the story goes

Jet was the MVP of this show, i love the actor they chose to portray him, and its crazy cause he was the least interesting in the Anime imo

The Sci fi element in the live adaption doesn't hit the same.
Right? The OG had the atmosphere of a proper space opera. This adaptation leaned too much into emulating the "visual and behavioral hyperbole" that we see in anime. They do these literal interpretations of the goofiest parts of these shows, while simultaneously managing to strip out all of the nuance and character building.

it wasn't as bad as the internet made it seem. it was entertaining actually.

obviously didn't measure up to source material, but things ever hardly do, especially to goat shyt like cowboy bebop, but still a decent watch.

you have to turn your head off at some shyt they tried to rip directly from the source that doesn't translate well to live action. I also had issues with Vicious depiction, and how that syndicate goon decided to help Julia because she suddenly believed in the power of love, but I liked what they did with Julia at then end and I'm going to watch season 2

Finally finished, I fukks with like 90% of this shyt heavy :yeshrug:

Giving us more Vicious definitely was the wrong move, but Julia was underutilized in the cartoon. I think the editing of their backstory was off, it made it seem like her and Spike started fukking around on like day one. I like that we got more of her. Season 2 will have to justify that ending.

The foursome was perfect, and saving Ed for later was the RIGHT move. Some shyt just works instantly in cartoons and wouldn't in live-action, they definitely had to sell us on the characters/universe before bringing that weirdo in. I loved the Jet/Spike/Faye/Ein interactions. Spike is a bit warmer in the show which, again, fits with what they were going for.

Actors did their things, I can't really blame the Vicious actor - they wrote the character a certain way and he nailed what he was supposed to do :yeshrug:

Julia will have to be justified in season 2.

The trio was perfectly cast.
