I think it’s a little too campy and it doesn’t look like the fight scenes will do the anime justice. Doesn’t look terrible just not good enough to interest me fully when the anime is still top tier

Only way to do the fight scenes justice woulda been to get the dude from Warrior on HBO Max to play Spike. That cat's got the Bruce Lee motions down.

Part of me is worried it'll be too much of the original and I'll know everything that's going on.
Part of me is excited because I can put my non-anime watching friends and family onto one of my favorite tv shows if this captures the original plot well enough.
And then part of me is just really curious about the episode where they're all drugged on the ship having psychedelic experiences.

I don't mind a remake presenting the ending that we've come to love, or changing it for the better. FF7 remake fukked up on two things, literally making it about time shenangians and changing the ending.....for the worst. Some times its best to do the Resident Evil, give me the ending I know of, and present side stories/more backstory on characters people like (Ada Wong).

And Mushroom Samba, yes. An episode that's lost on a lot of fans to begin with. A lot of the watchers think its just a throwaway filler* episode, but it pretty much gives us the blueprint for each character; from Spike endlessly walking up stairs, to finally stop at the top of the Bebop, makes perfect sense, he's the mascot, who will relentlessly "climb" even if it means risking his own life, to Jet finally finding his peace in cutting bonsai's, which is the complete opposite of his character, patient, precise and freestyle. Such a beautiful episode both with Django and Gungrave references. Its gonna be lost in the live action.

Again, Altered Carbon and Firefly did it better.

Dunno why they put out those other trailers because they made the show look too wacky. Official trailer is more in line with what you'd expect. John Cho still not really fitting that Spike bill tho. His delivery isn't there and he's not tall enough.

It would be virtually impossible to match the anime fight scenes with live action unless they had a $200 Million dollar budget and went full CGI, which would look fake as hell anyway. I like the way their making the fighting at least true to life and putting the majority of the budget towards the look and feel of the overall universe of Bebop
I think better casting could’ve improved the fight scenes (the little I’ve seen in the trailers). I just don’t see John Cho selling those movies like a seasoned athlete would.

Honestly my biggest issue so far is that they’ve leaned to much into making it looking like an anime with the colors and the costumes. My favorite thing about Bebop was how it felt realistic in a way. At least compared to the animes I’d watched at the time. I always thought it’d look more like blade runner 2049

The tallest Asian actor is Keanu, even then they can shot low angles and give him boots, ultimately its just a huge miscast. Cho, is only known as a nerd/simp typecast, not that he couldn't break the mold, however he needed more serious roles to do so, ala Matt Damon in the Bourne series (Talented Mr. Ripley and Ocean's Eleven, had us a ready for a serious Damon). Cho will always be Harold, and while he tries, it just feels like a nerd trying to act tough. Will Yun Lee will always be the Spike I imagine, he's 50 and short, yet steal the show anywhere he's placed. In Altered Carbon the dude was a savage, and captured what its like being a tough rouge in a Noir-esque world. Cho doesn't have that gravitas.

Exactly, I know a lot of heads HATE that episode because they think it doesn't offer much but I love it. You're right that it probably won't hit proper in live action.

Don't need to see one episode to know its bad....the trailer alone has shown plenty. If you can't see how out of touch it is to the original series, you're either haven't watched CB in a long time or need it compared even more starkly. And when this turns out bad, we'll be back here with the smilies.

Already love the original series, but its a discussion about the new one....which is a remake. So we're supposed to eat everything that's regurgitated and or "remade" because its using a scummy tactic of tapping into our nostalgia? If anything that's more reason to critique its every flaw. If you're going to be so bold as to remake something that took passion, drive, and everything else, you better make sure its coming with the same drive. This does not. They already said its diverging from the original story. Then there's the horrible casting, and the misunderstanding of the rapport between the characters.....again if you haven't watched CB in a long time, go give it a viewing, then come back.

Got damn breh couldn’t have said it better myself. People are so hard up for Bebop they will willingly consume any nostalgia bait for it.

If this is successful all it shows Hollywood is one to one conversions is the norm and Takeshi Miike is the greatest director of all time.
