I feel anything in a group can be worked out unless someone stole your money and won’t pay it. There issues with 9th was he didn’t wanna tour and show up to certain events but did you really need him there? I do think 9th could’ve showed to some of the major events. They probably didn’t wanna share the money if he not there but truth is they was checking for yall cuz of his beats. So give him a percentage of every show and keep it moving.

Says that 9th Wonder was only the beatmaker, and not even for every song. And Phonte was the head Producer. Interesting :jbhmm:

So why the hell does 9th Wonder get all the credit for these albums then?

This is obvious. 9th just makes beats, the other artists make the song concept and hook. This goes for all of ninths work.

But by definition he is a producer and is credited as such. I may be wrong but Alchemist and Just Blaze are the same whereas a Timbaland and Pharrell make/write hooks in addition to providing the beat.

He agreed to show up for some but not all. I think its possible at that point, its about are we a group when we tour or not. Its awkward having someone else DJ in spots...also whoever is DJing in his place may feel slighted....like why am I not the DJ at all the stops? they want to get paid consistently too and plan their schedule and not be like, well this week I am not working because 9th is and what if 9th dont want to do a date all of a sudden? the other DJ may be booked and then you have to find yet another DJ.

9th seems like an a$$hole and Phonte seems to have ego issues/issues not being given credit for his greatness. I can't see it ever being resolved unless a life changing incident occurs.

I understand that if I’m not mistaken 9th teach a class at Duke plus he got other obligations as well. If they all apart of Hall of Justus they can find someone to DJ their tour dates that’s within the family. Like I said just give 9th an agreed percentage of each show, when he was producing their albums. Now obviously they use other producers but back around their first 2 albums they should’ve done that. Cuz their fans were sad when they split yet they still came back together the energy just not there as their earlier work.

Quite fascinating that producers have convinced people to buy this bullshyt :ehh:

The beat maker is the talent. The beat maker can do everything a producer can. The beat maker can and majority out the time IS the producer..: seamlessly. The “producer” the way it’s used in hip hop (more on that in a second) and as the case here, couldn’t make a beat to save his life

So while it is a talent to have the ear to say ‘no sing this that way’, it does not supersede the beat maker. Not even close

But about hip hop. Sadly, this differentiation of beatmaker vs producer is a hip hop thing. Hip hop has a nasty stench of getting other people to do shyt for you that you should do yourself. You don’t hear R Kelly or Raphael Saadiq or Deangelo sayin ‘oh nah I made the beat but I got somebody else to produce it’. It’s bullshyt. And 95% of the time if it happens, there’s some type of fukkery around it.

Puff & Hitmen- fukkery surrounds it
Post Late registration Kanye- fukkery surrounds it
Timbo and his camp of ghostproducers- fukkery surrounds it
And now Little Brother- fukkery surrounds it

It’s a political delineation more than a musical one. One that big name ‘producers’ have convinced people to think is a real thing bc it benefits them
Truth.

Just Blaze and Alchemist have both contributed to songwriting as well and have done a lot more than just provide beats. Just Blaze has not only written hooks but has performed a lot of them. A lot of the cartoon character kind of voices on many of his beats are actually his own voice altered. He's the voice on the Welcome to New York City hook, and many others. Especially now, Alchemist does a lot of entire projects from front to back, and has to weave in interludes, help decide direction, does some vocal coaching, etc. He helped decide a lot of the sonic direction for Return of the Mac with Prodigy, so he was doing that a long time ago too.

Most producers that anyone knows on The Coli actually produce beyond supplying beats. Including 9th Wonder.

Pharrell and Timbo have a higher profile than any of the others, but they all are producers. Pharrell and Timbo are more famous and have worked on bigger hits, and put themselves in front of the camera more often.

Watched the clip. So it’s Pooh that’s disparaging 9th :aicmon: . And Math is not there. And the obnoxious dread head ngga scrolling on his phone. Just in 10 seconds I’m turned off of it.

Watch the full interview. The dreadhead dude does ask some really good questions which is a 180 from how annoying he was in the AZ interview

two things can be true at the same time. while you may be correct about 9th beats standing out, that doesnt mean that Phonte wasnt as much if not more of a producer on those albums. Phonte is a multitalent

Bullshyt logic. Horrible smh. Was Rakim sólo better than any of his stuff with Eric B even though Eric didn’t do shyt??? Alright then. Pooh makes better solo projects than Phonte. Doesn’t mean Phonte isn’t the most talented of the group, just that his projects are not something everyone can get behind totally even as an LB fan because he dabbles a bit. I know y’all love 9th with a passion but LB has always been dope with or without him.

Pooh doesn’t have a project better than No News Is Good News

It's because they're just not that likeable. I've never really heard anyone in the industry say they fukk with them like that. They're not even a "rapper's rapper" status.

Drake owes his entire career to Phonte and has said so numerous times

I don't think this is outlandish at all, but I wouldn't argue with anyone that prefers To Dream in Color, Words Paint Pictures, Sleepers, or some others. I think Pooh is one of the most consistent solo artists from a group out there. I love the way he approaches solo records. He was on the whole steez of picking one producer way ahead of time. He's got underrated full albums with Black Milk, Nottz, Apollo Brown, Focus, and others.

They both have a different solo aesthetic, but they're both dope.

That's a low bar tho. Phonte is laps around Pooh musically, lyrically.... everything..

The beats on Poohs first solo, if Phonte had those...lawd.
