Little Brother: 9th Wonder wasn't the real producer for our albums, Phonte was

I’m a fan of Little Brother but the older I get and look back they including 9th were very pretentious. 9th Wonder came at a time where it was refreshing to hear his chopped soul samples. His drums stayed the same just real simplistic. 9th is no Madlib. Phonte and Pooh did their thang Phonte influenced Drake. But at the same time as a group Little Brothers prime was over before it started.

9th produced the first 2 albums. He made the beats.

You can say Puff is a producer in another sense but Hitmen was a group effort. Somebody like Stevie J was probably still the "main" producer in my view.

9th's beats brought attention to LB in the first place, no career without him. And I don't even rock with 9th like too much these days

I am a huge fan of Little Brother as a group and as individuals and I know LB and 9th wonder had a lot of static but this is selling 9th short. 9th Wonder is a producer and a damn good one yes Phonte def contributed with writing the skits and interludes but that doesn't take away from what 9th did. I was on SOHH and people were gushing all over 9ths production and it was a big reason why those first 2 albums were regarded as high as they were.

They spent a lot of their career feuding instead of working. Then once they started back making music it just didn’t connect like before. When you a group you gotta work through the strife and talk about that after the momentum slow down. They was hot when they stopped touring and making albums together just stupid.

This nikka lying flat out! Their beats with 9th sound way different from their later work.

Lowkey I never got the hype on 9th Wonder. A lot of his production was just loops
The smoothness and soulfulness of his loops though. A lot of hip hop stuff is just loops anyway.

In this thread alone you see so many cats stubbornly bound to the hip-hop idea of a producer. But it really is more than just making a beat. Quincy Jones ain't play one instrument or write any melodies on Off The Wall or Thriller but he produced the records, didn't he?

That being said UpAndComing was definitely clickbaiting and misrepresenting the video
Quincy Jones is capable of playing those notes and crafting those melodies.

Why are some of y'all stubbornly bound to attempting to extrapolate non-hip-hop definitions to hip-hop?

That has nothing to do with what he did in Thriller and other projects.

Because they wanna give credit to dudes who sat in the room while the actual talent made the beats

People make everything in to beef. Why can’t it just be fact or opinion? The group could be together RIGHT NOW but they have creative differences. Not that they are actually beefing. He was going to be with them for the last album! He didn’t want to do all the show dates they wanted and they wanted him all in or nothing. That’s not beef. They just have creative differences. I’ll bet you can’t get another Griselda album! That mean they beefing? :what:
Yeah there’s no beef. They aren’t about to all 3 connect again musically but there’s mutual respect
