If your only contribution to the song was making the beat, you did not produce the song. It doesn't matter the genre. If somebody played a guitar on the song or the keys, and it was their only contribution, you don't see them getting production credits.

How many instrumental albums have you seen in Hip Hop? These songs have vocals on them and as long as there have been people in the studio who have given direction and input on the creation of a song, that is a full on production credit regardless of who did the beat. Puff may be a lot of things, amongst them is a producer. Regardless of any personal feelings towards him, he is actually a great producer. He ain't gotta be Quincy Jones, but in the past 30 years, Puff has been a great producer.

Then Atlantic paid for 9th and his wife to fly overseas to be apart of a couple shows LB turned him away again. If I was 9th I would’ve focused on my stuff too outside of LB. I think it was inevitable for them to keep breaking up to learn each other because their inception wasn’t authentic. Them dudes just created The Listening cuz they was nice but they had no principles or structure so it didn’t last.(with 9th)

The day Atlantic flew 9th out was when Phonte and Pooh said enough was enough and officially kicked him out the group.

And Atlantic DIDN’T fly 9th out for the shows. They flew him out so he could do interviews and front like he WAS going to be at the shows and then when fans would show up and only see Phonte and Pooh they would be upset. You could blame the label for that but the damage was already done.

For context, Michael Jackson was the biggest star on EARTH in 1984 during the Jackson’s Victory Tour. He would have had EVERY right to miss shows to work with other artists, or fly in to do press while Jackie, Jermaine, Tito, Marlon and Randy did the actual shows. Michael had ALL the leverage in the world to be an a$$hole, and he even didn’t want to do the tour in the first place, but once he signed on he was ON. He traveled with the brothers on the same tour bus, the same flights, same press conferences, never missed a concert date. All while being the biggest selling SOLO ARTIST of all time. He agreed to be part of the group and he was IN the group.

9th doesn’t have a Thriller to justify not touring. His biggest claim to fame at the time was remixing a Nas album, giving Jay-Z an album cut, and two placements on a Destiny’s Child album. Great accomplishments for sure, but nothing that justified getting credit for the success Phonte and Pooh were out giving blood, sweat, and tears to attain. And he DAMN SURE didn’t deserve any cut of show money

How so?

The man has worked with damn near every underground artist and then mainstream artists from Jay, Beyonce, Erykah, Luda, Kendrick, Paak, etc.

He's been getting steady work for 21 years. If he was hard to work with or an a$$hole that wouldn't be the case.

His issues with Pooh and Phonte shouldn't cause anyone to question his character especially when Pooh and Phonte had issues with each other. There's isn't a single person in music who didn't have few relationships go south.
Breh this shyt feels so fukking weird. I'm not used to the Booth talking about artist I know (not necessarily personally) but know of. Now i PERSONALLY have never dealt with 9th outside of a dap or a what up head nod around Durham.

I was around when all this shyt went down below and did the beat for Steam (I WAS A BEATMAKER on this track not a producer LOL). Mind you this shyt is over 12 years old and everything is squashed but........

They made GREAT music when all three were together but to say they haven’t made better music, all three of them, since separating EIGHTEEN YEARS AGO is categorically false.

Atlantic didn’t fly him out to participate in any shows. They flew him out to do press. So he was going to be in the venues but not participating in the shows.
