"Black Album" is kinda a universal music thing tho'. Prince has a Black Album. Metallica has a Black Album. It's usually something high profile artists do after they're established. Of course Jay didnt actually go thru with the Black Album concept of no promo or videos 'nshyt so blah... guess he or Def Jam were too nervous to do that. When it comes to BIG, I'm almost positive Puff woulda been too nervous to do that, especially in that era.

On the real tho... DMX's 2nd joint was sorta like a Black Album of sorts. He didn't even have a video off the album until February '99 (two months later) and I swear I didn't even see an ad or anything indicating its release until the same week it came out. shyt dropped out the sky.

This is true. Prince and Metallica both dropped Classic albums call "The Black Album" but I'm sure Jay heard it from Big 1st as no rapper ever attempted this. Jay was right there as Biggie was planning a lot of this stuff. Jay was a huge part of Biggie's future plans cause of the Commission project. I have no doubt Jay got the idea from Big and when he thought he was going to retire he actually was trying to go through with it but it didn't happen cause like you said Def Jam wasn't having it and Puffy most likely wouldn't of had it either. Pac was planning a Black Album type of release with "Makaveli" before his death, some even said he wanted to release it as a mixtape.

This is why I think Biggie was on the intro on "My 1st Song" which is the last song on "The Black Album" to me that was Jay acknowledging Big's influence on the album. As for DMX 2nd album, Yes it's crazy to look back but only "Slippin" was released as a single before it came out and that song was not single material but it's a classic song. So I agree, the album came out of no where, people were still feeling "It's Dark and Hell is Hot" heavy at that point and them boom here comes "Flesh of my Flesh" out of nowhere. But the reason it was able to still sell massive without much promo or hit singles is cause X was so hot in 98 and it carried over in 99 and that album benefited from it.

Yeah? Like what?

Well, Pac was a prophet, he knew it he's going to die but he prepared with his death same as Biggie for some strange reasons.

2Pacalypse Now
Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z.
Thug Life - Volume 1
Me Against the World
All Eyez on Me One
All Eyez on Me Two

Now his 7th album and changed his name to Makaveli: The fact, Pac read the book "Niccolò Machiavelli" in the prison

Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory is his 7th album.

He did finish the album "The 7 Day Theory" in 7 Days......something is not right but according to his people, family, friends, etc....that he did.

Look at his albums title and his life, which is perfect sense why he called it...in the order.

Look at Biggie, he was Ready To Die cause he took over the NY and put NY back on the MAP had NY rappers jealous of Biggie until Life After Death

A lot of Biggie's ideas Puff & Jay took. The clothing line, Brooklyn Mint, which Puff eventually created Sean John & Jay with Rocawear, gotta give Russell Simmons props as well. Also, props to Jay for helping Biggie's moms with Brooklyn Mint. This is why I don't see why Jay gets so much hate anytime he says a Big rhyme. That was his boy! I remember reading articles or hearing interviews where it's been stated Big & Jay would talk everyday. I remember Biggie's last interview on Rap City. I think he shouted out Bad Boy, JM & his family....and "Playboy Jay-Z, Jigga" and that's it. Like Big had that much respect for Jigga that no other rapper outside his immediate camp got a shout out.

Big Poppa's restaurants, Puff eventually created Justin's & Jay with 40/40. I think Big had something planned with Heavy D as well.

The Commission would have been the greatest hip-hop album ever, IMO. With Big, Jay & Charli Baltimore (with Big & Jay ghostwriting) along with Hitmen production? Would have been crazy.

The impact Big had on hip-hop is still heavy, Pac too. I agree with whoever said that Biggie would have went diamond even if he wasn't killed. Hypnotize & Mo Money Mo Problems killed the clubs and he had more singles that he would have dropped.

The World, but from BK
No doubt, Biggie most definitely would of messed with 50 Cent (Despite Jada saying Big would of spit on him, lol). 50 definitely learned from Big's blueprint. But we kinda got a glimpse with the remix of "N!ggas" called "The Realest N!ggas" which was on the "Bad Boys II" soundtrack. 50 had amazing chemistry with Lil Kim too.

I just remembered how dope this soundtrack was.

the person most affected by biggie's death had to have been lil cease. Most everyone mentioned in that piece and affiliated with biggie all had great to decent runs after his passing, but Lil Cease's career died the night big was shot.

Cease was not an emcee but he was rolling with Biggie damn near 24/7. Biggie forced Cease to rap, he started by making him a hype man. Cease would always back Big up on Stage. Then Biggie started writing his bars on the Junior Mafia LP (Yes That's Big rhymes on Playa's Anthem). Cam'ron actually wrote Ceases verses on "Crush on You". I don't know who was ghostwriting for Cease after Big's death, rumors are he actually wrote a lot of the bars on his LP but Cease album had some bangers on it. I think had Big lived it would of been better but Puffy and the Hitmen laced Cease. Here are a few tracks I liked:

After All Eyez On Me dropped then you have Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory was like damn Pac still got it and I bet that album wasn't finish because of Pac's death but it's still a f*cking classic....What if that album is way more better if he was alive bet that album probably be different or have more tracks, etc.

Mind you, he has a video for Toss It Up video before he died....that album probably would be different or what if Toss It Up was supposed to be on All Eyez On Me, etc....WE DON"T KNOW!.

The Makaveli album was originally going to be a black album (no promotion, no videos, etc.). 2pac supposedly wanted it to be more of a mixtape/street album than a legit LP. In fact, the artwork on the back of the album was supposed to have cartoon drawings dissing Puffy, Biggie, and Dr. Dre. The original mix of the album did not have "Toss it up" on there. Suge persuaded Pac to put that song on the album afterwards.

Did OP say Dilla produced a track for Big? Is that right?

Yep, a lot of people don't know that Biggie messed with Dilla before his Death. The song was originally called "The Ugliest" or "Brooklyn Lockness" but was later changed to "Dangerous Emcees" with a different beat on "Born Again". The original beat was then to be sold to Busta and called "Modern Day Gangsters" but the song wasn't completed outside of Big's verse. Biggie wanted the song to feature Busta and NaS. Biggie's verse is actually a Pac diss. It's filled with a ton of subliminals. The beat was fire and Biggie sounded dope on Dilla's production, Well Big sounded dope over everyone's production but it seemed like a good match with Big and Dilla. Here's the beat and song:

Yeah, ninety-six, for my Nordstrom Ave nikkaz
My Fulton Street nikkaz (hardcore for ninety-six)
Dangerous MC's..

Uhh (check it out) uhh
Diamonds on my neck, chrome drop-top
Chillin on the scene, smokin pounds of green
Oooh-wee, you see, the ugliest
Money-hungriest, Brooklyn Loch Ness
Nine millimeter cock test, wan fi' test?
And the winner is? Not that Thinner Kid, Bandana Tatoos,
my fist never bruise.
Land-still-cruise, Frank White paid his dues
Ask who's the raw, bet they say Poppa very
Look forward to me like commissary
All of a sudden, now every-body Big Willie
Done did it, come widdit, get yo' head splitted
or get your neck slitted, admit it, you overdid it
Your shyt it, just ain't got that LOUD

Gold tooth shine like TA-DOW!
Biggie Smalls the illest and how, frays raise your eyebrow
By now you figure, he talkin bout that nikka
but your weak-ass assumptions, lead led to dumpin
IV to pump-in, you're feeling something

Catch my drift, or catch my four-fifth lift
at least six inches, above project fences
Turn meat to minces, jokes turn to flinches
When I rain I drenches, cleared your park benches
Missed you by pinches your talk is senseless
Actor needs chiropractor for cracked jaw
Yes I rocked your cheddar box
Dangerous you're not I gets down
Twist your body {*singing*} round and round, upside down

All the underlined are Pac refereces/diss. He even ends the verse singing like Pac did on "I get around". Here's a Dilla "Kick in the Door" remix/mashup that Premo co-signed.

damn somebody get a time machine :sadbron::to:
