No one brings it up because it doesn't really mean anything. When you look at the accomplishments of an artist like Jay, that ranks really low on the list, when you look at an artist like DMX it's really high because there's not much else to highlight.

Actually I haven't heard anybody mention it for anyone besides DMX, except for 2Pac here and there. The DMX fans really see at as a big historical achievement, even though it's really a no-brainer to strike while the iron is hot. Even if the result is lackluster work, which is what some on this thread have mentioned (not me).

Either way, it doesn't have to count in your world for it to be a fact. Jay-Z had two #1 albums in one year. I didn't make it up, that much I'm sure we can agree on.

Both of X albums debuted at #1 thats the difference... others have had albums that reached #1

X is also the only rapper to have his first 5 albums debut at #1

Alot of gymnastics and goal post moving to discredit DMX. The original feat is described as 2 albums to debut at #1 in the same year.. anything else is nikkas being extra

DMX should be respected for

1.Killing that bullshyt pop movement started by Puff at the time and bringing hip hop back to the streets.

2.Literally coming up the hardway. He didn't get no deal on some Industry Plant shyt like these nikkas today. X went in and killed features left and right along with battling on the streets.

3. Put out songs for the bytches and didn't softened up his sound.

4. Putting out ANOTHER album titled Flesh of My Flesh Blood of My Blood the same exact year and going #1 .

5. Being possibly one of the best stage performers of all time. I seen this cat perform weeks ago and even though many may talk that shyt about him being a crackhead, None of these new cats can light up a stage like X.
Nore controlled a portion of that time period 2 let’s not forget!

The irony is that DMX first major feature was on Mase first album correct?? :mjlol:

Would have really been dope to get a prime DMX / M.O.P collab back then

THE CLASS OF 1998

DMX - It's Hot and Dark as Hell, Flesh of My Flesh Blood of my Blood
Lauryn Hill - The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
Jay Z - Hard Knock Life
Outkast - Aquemini
Big Punisher - Capitol Punishment
Master P - The Last Don
Juvinelle - 400 Degreez
Mystikal - Ghetto Fabolous
Gangstarr - Moment of Truth
Scarface - My Homies
Goodie Mobb - Still Standing (Had an early KanYe beat on this)
Black Star - Black Star
Busta - E.L.E.
Pete Rock - Soul Survivor
Redman - Doc's The Name
Trick Daddy - www. thug . com
DJ Quick - My Rhythm AL ISM
RZA - Bobby Digital

Tell me 1998 did smash sh!t and this was the end of the 90's when I would say Hip Hop started to fall off. Damn, every year in the 90's was great.

Just came to say that Hard Knock Life, Aquemini, Black Star & Tribe’s The Love Moment all dropped on the same day in ‘98. That’s crazy.

The World, but from BK
I always thought Capital Punishment was the best album that year, but X did run it.

"How's It Goin' Down" will always be memorable for me that summer. I remember losing my virginity to my HS gf at the time that summer and having this song on repeat in my cd player after leaving her house. Dominican chick who kinda resembled the lady in the video. Shout out to Melina.

Uncertain grounds
400 degreez came out in 98 also. CLASSIC
@DEAD7  check this guy out

The only reason I don't regard DMX in the levels of other legends is cause he doesn't have albums fukking with them. He doesn't have longevity fukking with them.

I'm more likely to compare him to 50 cent (who probably(definitely) had a bigger influence than X) than someone like Ice Cube.
He has like 3 3-4 mic albums and 1 great album, like a Lil Wanye without longevity & tons of classic mixtapes.

I don't really give a fukk about hype and sales, the quality of DMX's music is not on the level of a legends. Certain songs yes, but nah I wouldn't call him Kwame Brown but he's a 1st pick bust.
