Socialist platforms are always popular with the masses in America until you actually use the word socialism. You see it play out everyday. There’s a Fox News poll showing that Medicare for all, free public college, and a job guarantee are all popular, but then the same polls show that most Americans don’t like socialism. The entire definition of the word has been hijacked and weaponized against the people who would benefit from it. There’s a reason so many civil rights leaders were socialists.A lot of what the Black Panthers were about...their platform...is super popular today.
I expected even less, everything you see in TLR shows that most people here don’t know a thing about what Fred Hampton stood for. He stressed the importance of education and knowing your history but we’ve got a forum filled with conspiracy theorists and people who idolize YouTube bloggers who can barely string coherent sentences together. The amount of replies about this amazing brotha is very telling about where the coli is at now
I was just about to mention the Rainbow Coalition. Posters in TLR wouldn’t give him the time of day if he wasn’t talking about “tangibles” only for black people. He understood the importance of both racial unity and class solidarity in order to make progress.RIP
What do Coli militants have to say about his interest and NEAR success in uniting white, Hispanic, and Asian groups towards common goals? He understood coalitions and their power. Group dynamics. He was beginning to understand political power. I don't think it's a coincidence he was killed when he was killed, given what he was on the verge of doing.
RIP

When is this dropping? I’m a documentary head and usually don’t watch movies but I’m up for this one. Lowkey sad it won’t be a theater experience.
I’m not too good with this getting the “Hollywood” treatment these days. They never do right by our leaders - it’s always a whitewashing of some sort. Like “Harriet”. Rather a series - like “Godfather of Harlem” If it was done like that where WE control the story and the outcome.
This is sad.82 replies ain't enough.
I had started a thread last year at this time in The Root- Fred Hampton didn’t get much acknowledgement either.82 replies ain't enough.
